2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Two game set starts with the Rangers tonight. If we can steal one I will be ecstatic. Chen and Mazzaro will be our starters.

So Duffy sounds a hell of a lot like someone that's about to visit Dr. James Andrews and there aren't any tears being shed in here? Is it confined to the game thread?

That's almost the worst possible thing that could've happened to the Royals. Maybe Moose or Hosmer having a wrist injury would be worse, but Duffy facing possible TJ surgery is just tragic from a baseball standpoint, let alone Royals standpoint.

The kid's not far away from being a stud.

Tears? More like a shoulder shrug. IT'S THE ****ING ROYALS, AND WE'RE ROYALS FANS! This is S.O.P. for our Franchise. Bad shit will always happen to this team. It's who we are. I'm just waiting for Hosmer to get decapitated whilst brushing his teeth. It's just a matter of time.........

I just heard that people in the organization are fearing the worst! He was the one consistent bright spot on the pitching staff and was only getting better

Its in the game thread. Duffy said he felt tightness, but the same thing happened last yr.

I'll throw a tantrum when its actually reported he needs TJ.

My tantrum comment was tongue-in-cheek. Some around here tend to freak out before anything has happened.

Since that will void his contract with us a medical miracle will take place in the head re-attachment arena and Hosmer will sign with StL and go on the become a HOFer.

Mine was less about your comment and more about the "where's the tears?" question.

We could go out and get the five best, most expensive free agents next year, and they would all be killed by falling space debris while having a beer at Hooters.

I shed my tears during the game yesterday. It helps that he has already had trouble this year, and its pretty much certain he is facing TJ surgery, the “acceptance” phase came pretty quick.

Totally agree about the devastation that this one brings. Perez? Meh, he will be back and is still young. Cain? Meh, we have a few outfielders. Soria? Meh, we have a strong bullpen and he was getting “up there” as a closer anyway. But now this, on top of all that – and he is the ONE pitcher that was actually living up to expectations. Montgomery and Dwyer have fallen off a cliff, Lamb already got hurt, and guys like Hoch and Sanchez have swung to the “worst case scenario” end of the spectrum. Are we ever going to catch a break?

This is why I don’t want to see Myers come up this season. Assuming we get pitching figured out, it will likely be when Moose, Hoz, and Escobar are pretty close to signing big deals on the east coast, so lets set it up so we have at least a couple of bats left after 2017. By then we could have Myers and Bubba team with Gordon/Cain in the OF.

It's a pretty devastating blow, re: Duffy. I'm hopeful it isn't ligament damage, but I think it's mostly false hope.

Lamb should begin throwing soon - probably right around the time Duffy would be having elbow surgery. I think he's likely to make a good recovery.

Odorizzi is about to get promoted. He's showing the high K potential at AA he flashed in Wilmington last year, which is a great sign. I was worried his stuff wouldn't translate at higher levels. Will be interesting to see if it takes him as long to adjust at AAA as it did at AA.

Montgomery actually seems to have turned a corner. He had a bad start last week, when there was a 25 mph tailwind to left field (that turned 3 routine flys into HRs). If he continues to pitch well, I still think he's up sometime in the second half of 2012.
