This article says Cardinals could trade Lynn or Miller for Starling Castro. Big headcase, Colby Rasmus II

Replacing Kozma with 2012 Castro offensively would be (literally) like replacing 2013 Jon Jay with Andrew McCutchen.

A year removed from 200 hits iirc. I'd take him.

Rather have tulo but Castro would work

The problem with Castro is the contract.

If you make the move for Profar and he busts, you're out the prospects.

If you make a move for Castro and he busts, you're out the prospect(s) plus the $50 million he's due over the next 6 years. Now at $5 million/WAR on the market, getting 10 WAR over 6 years should be pretty doable for a guy entering his mid-20s, but it's not a given.

I'm with you in that I'd far prefer give up Lynn for Castro than Miller+ for Profar, but there's a lot more risk in Castro.

That said, man is that kid talented. And the Cardinals hitting approach could be absolutely perfect for him; getting him to cut down on those Ks and use his speed a little more. Unless he can get his K rate down into the 11-12% range, he's not going to be a truly dangerous offensive weapon.

FWIW, many new projections are valuing WAR at closer to $7 million than $5.

I think te upside with Castro is higher too. I'm not sure but it seems A) the rangers overvalue prospects B) profar is elevated because of overall lack of talent at that position league wide.

I'm on the Tulo bandwagon, if you can add a core player of his level, I'm all for it.

That said, Castro is a really nice piece.

The Cards should move up a league and join the AL. Kinda like what Houston did (painful as it was this year). The AL dominates interleague and the ASG. I think the past decade, the AL averages about an 85-77 record (projected to a 162 game season) mark against the AAAA league.

Looks like Cards made a QO to Beltran and have already announced that Rosenthal will be the closer for next year (Rosie has publicly stated he wants to return as a starter) while Motte returns from surgery.
