If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

That too.

Geno is a huge risk and isn't a sure thing and so is anyone in everyone in this mediocre QB class. Are all QB's a risk? Yes. But when when several NFL scouts question this entire class and say that they feel they aren't very good prospects, you don't draft for NEED and take one 1st overall because you NEED it. I'll take the scouts opinion over anyone on this board. The desperate mindset is amazing on here yikes.

Maybe that's why they want to trade down. Because they know they can get more picks and get a good QB prospect they like in the 6-10 range.
Who is it that other teams would covet to move up?

Never once have I stated that if the Chiefs identify who they believe would be their Franchise QB, that they should not take him. Not once.

But there's a crazy-ass fervor going around on this forum where people think the Chiefs should take a Smith at #1 overall, regardless of the fact that he hasn't been evaluated at the Combines, there's no consensus "Best" QB at this point and even if the QB grades out 10 points less than the highest rated player OR if he's rated similarly to the other "Top Prospects" (to which I say loosely).

It's as if people have ****ing lost their minds with this "Geno Smith! Geno Smith! Geno Smith!!!1111" nonsense before the guy has even been professionally evaluated.
Uhm, so?

With what little information we have, the top QB at the moment appears to be Geno. Obviously that may change after the combine and the days leading up to the draft. You're mad at people for expressing favoritism towards a player that, from what info we have, appears to be the best at his position?

Well shit....i guess we shouldn't form an opinion till after the combine then.

Don't let the Geno Smith Hype scare you away.

Just go watch his games that have been made easily available via youtube and judge for yourself.

I wasn't a Geno fan either because I was a dumbass that listened to the media. I went and did my own research of the QB's and can easily see that Geno is worth the #1 overall pick to THIS FRANCHISE.

Tyler Wilson is also pretty damn good.

I'm sure you've watched enough of Barkley.

Glennon is a joke though, you can watch that yourself as well.

i don't give a **** which QB you don't want to draft...

i just pointed out that this: "Once coaches and GM's are routinely fired for reaching and over-drafting quarterbacks, the madness will end"

is premised on the faulty logic that there is something riskier about drafting a QB than say a LT...and it isn't true

it is just assumed to be true because the operative assumption about QB's has been - forever - that they're 'risky'

not drafting a QB in the name of value, or risk, or whatever is not an inherently smart, high-minded, choice....it's just a choice, and one that is every bit as likely to lead to failure as drafting a QB would...

but this fallacy persists...mostly because people think they're being reasonable espousing it...vesus those "crazy, obsessed" people who want a QB

I dont see it as "Geno or nothing", more like "QB or nothing".

I don't know that Geno will be the top prospect come draft day. Personally, i've always favored Wilson, but i think there is plenty to like about both prospects.

The fact remains, QB is by far the weakest position on this team, and it is by far the most important position in the NFL. The Chiefs are in a prime spot...for the first time ever, to pick whichever QB they feel is best.

Not really.

It's the overall tenor of this place, it's COMPLETELY polarized to the point that everything just becomes a shouting match to see who can be loudest.

The original discussions of Geno were ALWAYS reserved. And the BlackBob and his band of mults showed up with the "he sucks, you guys are stupid" routine.

People tried to ignore it but the mults kept coming and eventually everybody succumbed to it.

Exactly. The only risk the chiefs can make is NOT drafting a QB at #1 and attempting to work with the leftovers.

There are teams that are smart and draft QB's to groom and either use or trade.
And then there are teams like the chiefs who attempt to work with other teams scraps while they rotate through drafting OT's and Dlineman.

Again, there's very little, if any, Geno "hype".

It's a response, a defense mechanism, to the repeated trolls that are dumping on every thread.

This.

I think even the Geno/Wilson supporters understand that these guys aren't guarantees. So what. I'd rather take the risk on the most impactful position in the game then take a DT, because he's a little less risky. Chiefs have been doing that for years.

Understood. I can't wait for the combine and Senior Bowl. Im excited to see who rises and falls.

But, that doesn't mean we can't make an early assessment with what info we DO have.

Opinions are always subject to change.
