How to Fix the OL

Assuming KC can't reach an agreement with Hudson, how do you (realistically) propose fixing the OL? The potential loss of Hudson is HUGE. People are preoccupied with Houston and WR right now, but without a drastic improvement in the OL this team is going nowhere fast. Personally, I have no idea what to think of KC's current starters/depth of Stephenson, Allen, Fulton and Kush. What's your best plan to try to make the OL respectable?

I'd throw both of our 3rd round picks at the OL. Straight playmakers with the first 2 picks.

I don't hate the idea, although I'm also partial to the idea of having two 1st round bookend tackles.

The general pattern that Dorsey and Reid like in offensive lineman is their toughness.

Paul Fanika and Mike McGlynn might not be athletic (and thus suck at pass pro), but they are tough guys that can be tone setters for an offensive line. Same can be said about Fisher.

Fulton is someone they were hoping to mold into a nasty blocker.

The chiefs like guys with quick feet in Fisher and Kush, but that is not something that Fulton posesses (nor does McGlynn or Fanika).

Which offensive lineman would you consider to be physical/tough in the draft other then la'el collins who seems perfect for the chiefs?

I could go on and on....draft is loaded with offensive lineman that fit what the chiefs like.

So a Tackle early and later rounds for a center and guard?

Flowers or Collins and Jinney or Gallik in the 4th/5th?

And a project guard 5th or later that needs technique/experience?

Maybe the focus goes to getting a weapon along side of Maclin... or a Stud DB?

What do I expect? Dorsey will come out and say BPA regardless.

Well, after the Ben Grubbs signing who knows what the chiefs will do. Ben Grubbs is a good overall guard who has the ability to be great when injury free.

He doesnt have the nasty attitude or toughness as some other guys. If I would refine my theory I would guess that Reid and Dorsey like LT, LG, and centers who have quick feet while he prefers RG and RT who are mean road graders.

Chiefs really dont have a RT who is a mean road grader. Sherrod, Stephenson, Allen dont fit that definition.

I think this offensive line has too many question marks and unproven players on it.

Our tackles are suspect. Eric Fishers progression hasn't been all that good or smooth per say. At the rate he is going, he definately won't be a dominant LT. Maybe average at best.

The fact is clear that up to this point, Donald Stephenson has been a spot starter at both LT/RT spots. He has given the team inconsistent play and was dogshit in a handful
of games. Jeff Allen hasnt had enough playing time at RT so who knows how he'd turn out?

Eric Kush Im hoping he could pan out for us. Again, don't know what we have there? I don't like the idea of banking on too many late rounders to vie for starting spots on your roster and that's what the Chiefs are doing with Fulton, Fanaika and Kush.

I think to fix this OL, they should go with a proven, established veteran at either Center or guard. Wisnewski would be my choice. I would draft another offensive tackle with the first pick. My choices are either La'el Collins, Ereck Flowers or Andrus Peat.

I would draft a guy that could play either guard or Center with my 4th rounder.

Offensive line is unproven.

Let's draft rookies and start them.

No, I wouldn't say unproven. More like they've proven themselves to be really shitty.

Allen has proven himself to meh at OG. He played LT in college.....so who's to say that he won't be average at RT? Stephenson has played well at times and awful at others. Who the **** knows what he can do with full time reps. Kush is truly the only unknown at this point.

How long do they get to prove otherwise?

I think some fans love the idea of drafting OL because they think "instant starter!" if drafted in the 3rd round and higher.

When it doesn't happen soon enough, they keep firing on more linemen until a pro bowl rookie falls into their laps.

“As I look at it, God has given you magnificent physical skills,” Dorsey said of Stephenson. “Now let’s blend everything together. He’s fully committed, he’s all in, which I love. Now let’s go and do it."

I'm pulling for Stephenson. Would be huge for him to get his shit together. If he has a good camp and wins the spot they need to try to extend his deal.

Let's look at these guys.

Eric Kush is apparently so athletic that he is specifically a center, in spite of the fact that we had ass at guard.

Zach Fulton has so much lead in his feet that I'd need a crane to move them, which is a real asset for a team that relies on the short passing game as an extension to the running game.

Donald Stephenson is going into his 4th season, and has been so consistent that we have a consensus that he is on his way to pro bowl level play.

Jeff Allen is also going into his 4th season, and has established his place on this line, except, of course, for the fact that we aren't even sure if he's a tackle or a guard.

Paul Faniaka is essentially Zach Fulton with more NFL starts.

I actually have high hopes for LDTardiff.

Drafting O-Line this year isn't about unproven talent.

It's about lack of talent, poor scheme fit, and insurance.

It's really kind of funny when people expect drat picks to come in and pay immediate dividends. If a team is really counting on rookies to turn your team around they're in trouble. Sometimes teams to hit a homerun but usually it's foul ball. Fisher is a prime example. He should turn the corner this year but it's been a process to say the least.
