The first part is a myth. Mizzou and aTm paid a bunch of money, but that really doesn't have anything to do with this. It isn't like the schools forfeit that money if they don't spend it on the FSU buyout.

The rich donor thing is likely bullshit, too. That rumor pops up every time buyouts get mentioned.

Its not a myth at all. Between the two of them, they paid almost $27MM to the big 12. Even if that gets distributed to the schools, you asked if the schools are willing to pay $1MM each, but they really aren't, its still found money. Its basically a big pile of money that gets deposited in everyone's account, earns interest for a few months, then goes out to the ACC.

Found money is still real money. If they spend it on FSU, they have that much less real money. It isn't like they lose the money if it doesn't go to the ACC. The money they spend on FSU is money they can't spend somewhere else.

If it's worth $1,000,000 or whatever to get them, great. Pretending that the money doesn't count because you received a windfall from somewhere else is nonsensical.

You are wrong. The money does not count, because it is OBVIOUS that we are eventually going to 12, and that clearly means a cost. This isn't "oh boy, free money, time to go spend it!" Part of the reason for that money is due to the liability incurred with getting new teams.

Every school would understand that there would be a cost down the road, and that this money is going to defray, or eliminate that liability. Any school that just spends it presuming we'll stay at 10 forever and ever, and then gets surprised by the bill, is a school run by a pack of morons.

This isn't accurate at all. The schools are not "paying" money, the conference is withholding unearned TV revenue over the next two years. So the conference is not just sitting on tens of millions right now that it can use for FSU's buyout. Also the gross amount withheld between Mizzou and A&M is $25MM, but the net amount is about $3MM less due to A&M getting a portion of the contract signed with Fox last year.

Word.

This is accurate. It's amazing how little some of you know and yet you post with complete certainty. Neither Mizzou nor A&M paid a penny to the Big 12, nor will they ever.

The Big 12 isn't a conference...it's a loose configuration of non-equal parties that is still waiting for the next implosion moment.

And don't you love their VERBAL agreement to forfeit TV revenue if one of them leaves!??? What a bunch of morons.

If they actually wind up signing the granting of rights and adding Clemson and Florida State, it will be a very solid conference. A marriage of convenience can still be a stable marriage.

meaningless semantics. I am aware of the fine details of how the Big 12 recovers the money, but its not really important because its not like we're house-rich and cash-poor. We've got plenty of cash to float a loan.

If the granting of rights becomes official, Texas really doesn't have any leverage.

I know it's been said before in this thread... but it's amazing what happens once someone other than a mouth-breathing moron is placed in charge of the conference.

I'm sure all the shakeup over the past two years also added some urgency and opened doors that would never had been cracked, even if Beebe had wanted to approach them.
