Ok I hate to say it but is the NFL Rigged?

One of the worst reffed games I've ever seen and how is the ref punished? No he's rewarded with the Super Bowl job. How the hell can this be does the NFL not want us to win?

I know now I'm a conspiracy theorist or just angry chief fan but is anyone else upset???

The NFL basically screwed the chiefs and no one is mad!

As a result, the talent gap among the various teams now is typically razor thin. Certainly thinner among the top, whatever, 10 teams than it used to be. As a result, superiority at the most critical position (QB) often decides the issue.

Even the Patriots, the most dominant team of the new millenium, aren't doing it the way the old teams did it. The turnover on the team is massive, but Brady and Belichick keeps the ship on course. That isn't how the old Steelers, Niners, Giants, Redskins, Cowboys, etc. were winning championships.
How will that allow me to blame Elway? I'm open to other theories as long as they fit within the already proven and verified framework that Elway is trying to destroy the sport for his personal gain.

Shocking the mule tool thinks everything is on the up and up. THE GAME IS SIMPLY NOT CALLED THE SAME WAY FOR CERTAIN TEAMS. That really isn't arguable either. It makes the game results absolutely irrelevant to myself and a growing number of fans. Not a good thing...

I also think that perhaps certain teams that are more "sexy" are pushed towards winning more. Many more people would watch a Patriot/Packer SB than a Titans/Carolina one.

But... one thing keeps coming back to me. If this were truly the case, if even one ref on each crew was instructed to "steer" the game, it almost certainly would have come out by now. Consider how many hundreds of people would need to be involved. At some point, someone somewhere would talk.

Whether it's a ref getting drunk and confiding to his wife--who later reveals it after their divorce, or something else, at some point somebody would let the cat out of the bag.

That it hasn't happened yet suggests to me that maybe we're just seeing horribly incompetent refs. And maybe refs who are individually on the take (as opposed to being part of a league-wide conspiracy to steer games towards a certain result).

I don't know. 20 years ago I would have laughed and said no way anything is rigged. Now... I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it is, but at the same time I have a hard time believing that nobody would have spilled the beans yet.
Many players have.

Swept under the rug.

Who's gonna report it; the networks/magazines/media who rely on those ratings and ad dollars?

I believe there's too many people involved to outright predetermine how a game is going to wind up, or script it. I do believe, however, that the refs can steer the game in a certain direction if given the opportunity. By calling or ignoring holding, by calling or ignoring pass interference, especially by NOT calling penalties on a certain team and always calling a penalty on other teams. I've seen that going back to before Elway.

Actually, yes, I think they would. For a reporter to do an investigative piece and definitively prove rigging or collusion would be something that would make his or her career. The reporter would care more about his/her own career prospects than about the fact that blowing the whole thing up would cost his/her magazine some ad dollars.

Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that it's a fairly-officiated game, and any mistakes are the results of incompetent officiating (or the occasional lone rogue referee).

I just don't know.

The NFL ratings are primarily down due to the same changing demographics and entertainment options overload that have driven down ratings across all television. Not that other factors (national anthem issue or whatever) are a ZERO issue. They could be having an impact.

But the NFL still dominates compares to every other entertainment product out there. Ratings are only down compared to their own absurdly high standards of prior years.

People who claim penalties are called on some teams and not other are simply seeing and remembering what is convenient for them.
Here's a thought--will teams with shitty QBs--ones who hold the ball longer-- probably get called for holding more or less?

And the NFL went after the god-QB in NE because balls had a teeny-tiny bit less air than they should have. Suspended 4 games.

How many Steelers have been suspended the past few years?

They fought all year with the league's most popular team to suspend one of the league's best players. They succeeded, helping to sink their year and take them out of the playoffs. All while ratings were down. You don't think the NFL wanted a strong Dallas team every week and in the playoffs?

Shocking that a Patriot fan (benefactor of every call ad suspension ruling) thinks everything is on the up and up. Shocking!

So you thought Roger Goodell had turned the lights out?” Salters asked.

"I thought he had a hand in it," Suggs said. "Most definitely, he had a hand in it."

Suggs' conspiracy "theory" has its roots in something that happened before the Ravens' 38-35 double-overtime divisional playoff win over the Denver Broncos on Jan. 12. Suggs saw Goodell talking to Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, and he was not amused.

“It's like, 'Hmmm.' I thought, your commissioner is supposed to be neutral," Suggs said. "He ain't supposed to be on one side or the other; he's supposed to be in the box. I saw him on their sideline and I was like, 'Huh, I know who he's going for."

Except that I've been working in healthcare administration since August...

I played exactly 6 shows in 2017; I still do a fair amount of session work on the side, though...

Poor cocksmoke, you seriously don't know a ****ing thing about a ****ing thing...

Sure - if Alex would have completed the pass to Bert and either won in regulation or OT, we would have gotten jobbed in NE.

Either way, the NFL gets its Brady/Rapenburger title game...again.

And Brady vs Brees in the SB.

And, all this "it's rigged" talk is kind of funny. Think about the franchises that continue to be consistently relevant and compare them to the ownership visions of the other teams... Lions, Browns, Jaguars, Jets, Chiefs, Bengals, Chargers... there's a dozen teams out there that just aren't managed or set up like the 5-6 franchises that are consistently battling for greatness.

The NFL is really ok with a dozen fan bases just never really having a shot to win it or ever being on TV in big games. Really? I think there are a number of crappy and apathetic ownership groups out there and that's the problem more than anything.

How long have KC fans complained about the Hunts, GMs or coaches - hell you flew banners to fix things. But, the league has it rigged, yeah? Fans of teams like the Lions, Browns, Jets, Bengals... they're all institutionalized at this point.
The dirty Donkey makes some really good points here.
