Moderate House Republicans may Revolt Tonight

New York Republicans Peter King and Michael Grimm have apparently whipped their colleagues and discovered that they have at least 25 republicans willing to join the Democrats to sign and enact a discharge petition. (For those who don't know what a discharge petition is, they are very rare since it basically requires rebelling against the house leadership. If a discharge petition has enough signatures, then a bill is forced to the house floor for a vote).

Now we're talking. How great for Peter King and the Establishment Republicans to take a torch to the party when the base is rallying. It would make the 2014 elections that much more interesting.

quick correction, they wouldn't be able to force a vote on a clean CR until later next month according to the rules. What they are apparently planning to do tonight is join with the Dems to vote down the house GOP's latest counter-offer.

Get 'em on record!

I hope they do this. It complicates things for Boehner, who I have to respect for trying to navigate this thing, even if he doesn't have a good feel for it. But this move is more than I could have hoped for at the outset. A primary list in the Senate and a primary list in the House. That would be fantastic!

Everything is turning up Tea Party...

And yet, when we don't turn out to vote republicans don't have a lot of success. Go figure.

It is obvious they don't want us. I really don't even consider myself a republican any more due to the establishments attempts to push us out.

But I completely disagree about the need. The most success the Republican Party has had in modern times has been when conservatives show up to vote. When they do not, they tend to lose. You need us more than you want to admit.

He's a Democrat pining for the neocon wing of the party who created the wars, but left domestic spending alone.

The most damning piece of evidence for the failure of the Republican party is that perhaps Mitt Romney truly represented them.

Still pulling the same BS since Jerry Ford and what IS killing the GOP. RINO elites never win anything but 'Conservatism' always wins !!! And please George Bush I won in 88 riding the coat tails of the Reagan Era not on his own merit of Dem Lite RINOism

That's funny. The trend I keep hearing about is that the D's capture the youth vote, and that's why they beat the R's for POTUS. Twice. With a shitty candidate. Go figure a bunch of kids don't really buy into the Bible thumping, gay bashing, war mongering, fat cat douchebags who have controlled the Republican party for a while. Hey. Maybe the Republicans should try something different.

I don't. Both of the major parties are bloated crap, pandering to the ignorant and fearful. Since corporations are pouring billions of dollars into both sides to maintain the status quo, I'd rather neither party was too badly handicapped. Ideally we'd have a population that could see through this bullshit but we are apparently becoming a nation of illiterate morons with no attention span.
