Daughter and grandkids flew back here and dad stayed behind in the house. Luckily it came up behind FM and not up the coast. They lost two trees that knocked down two sections of their privacy fence. Very lucky.

I had no idea that had been happening in Jacksonville. Here my house has a Cat3 hurricane go directly over it and we just had a mess of small limbs and frawns to clean up. Jacksonville is on the complete opposite side of the state and it ends up way way worse shape than us. Mother Nature is a fickle beast.

You don't wanna be on the east side of these things. Lotta tornadoes. Making it worse is the fact that the river runs north and it's like the whole river got jostled and pushed up to Jax.

I thought I had no internet when my power came back. But you hit the reset button on your cable box, or pull the power cord out for a bit and it should come back. That's what I did. I do that whenever, it seems like my internet or cable is down.

I'd say it's more like a strong Cat 1, weak Cat 2 due to that.

Can you imagine what it would be like, if it were a Cat 3?

What people don't realize when pictures are shown of flattened homes in the Caribbean, is they are mostly wood construction—which won't survive much of anything, compared to the concrete construction of more modern homes in Florida.
Those homes in Homestead during Hurricane Andrew that you saw flattened, were a lot of modular homes.

A Cat 4 will take just about anything down especially if you find yourself on the east side of the eyewall. 2002 building code in florida was much needed. This storm fortunately was Nothing like Charlie. We got lucky as hell.

My brother, a structural engineer and former meteorology major ( now his hobby) denies that. Also, it's the NE quadrant that is the most destructive. Even the TV meteorologists said that.

How something is built and from what, can save property even in a Cat 4. My shelter was a newer building built to survive a Cat 5 and 185 mph winds including the hurricane glass. That's what the police and principal both told me.
