Mock (3/14/13)

This one will be a little more indicative of Andy Reid's trade-happy nature.

Assumptions:

1. They get one compensatory pick, an extra third (Carr).

2. The Chiefs pull off a trade down from the #1 draft spot by offering a steal of a deal to the Bills. They swap 1st rounders (this puts the Chiefs at #8 overall) and the Bills deal a 2nd rounder and 4th rounder this year, and a 2nd rounder next year.

3. The Chiefs then package their 2nd rounder with the 3a pick (3b cannot be traded) to move back into the bottom of the first, around pick #21.

4. Trades down from the 4th rounder, swapping 4ths (dropping us about 10 slots) and accumulating an additional 5th.

1. OT Lane Johnson, Oklahoma

It's pretty clear at this point that Andy Reid is not sold on Donald Stephenson, and at this point, no deal has yet been made for Branden Albert. So the Chiefs take a guy they think can man the RT spot this year, with the hopes that Johnson has left tackle ability for 2014 and beyond.

1. CB Xavier Rhodes, Florida State

No corner has been signed, and this roster is both thin and shallow at the position. There are a lot of corners in this draft but few with legit #1 corner ability.

3. ILB Nico Johnson, Alabama

With corner and RT holed up, the last remaining hole is ILB. Nico is a favorite of mine at the position in this draft.

4. RB Montee Ball, Wisconsin

The Chiefs need more meat at RB, especially to help take heat off Alex Smith.

5. WR Marquess Wilson, Washington State

The Chiefs continue to hope Baldwin can develop opposite Bowe. In the meantime, the Chiefs are still hurting for depth at WR.

5. OLB Michael Buchanan, Illinois

Your typical Illini product. Athletic as all get out, in need of serious development.

6. ILB Zaviar Gooden, Missouri

Some badly needed athleticism for our ILB corps.

7. CB Micah Hyde, Iowa

The CB position needs more talent down the depth chart.
