2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

So what are the chances all our guys come back 100%? Specifically Duffy and Lamb. Getting them back with the arrival of Odorizzi would be a good start to a rotation for 2014.

Or is it one of those “one year rehab, one year to get back to 100%” things?

Tommy John surgery has progressed to the point that most people make full recoveries. Some even come back stronger.

Strasbourg was back in 13 months.

Lamb is likely going to be on track to begin pitching in game action (or at least simulated game action) in June/July. He should be full strength for the 2013 season, and I think he'll have a decent shot at moving quickly (depends on how long it takes him to get his command/control back). I'd estimate his time of arrival as likely July 2013. Best case (and this would be EXTREME best case), he could be ready for a September callup.

Duffy, best case, is rehabbing around the all-star break next year. All depends on how quickly his body heals, naturally, how bad the tear is, etc.

Funny you mention this. I'm an auditor and one of the VPs of a company I do work for is renting out Greinke's old apartment. Maybe it's just an investment now.

7-4 so far against NYY, Boston, CHW (road), and Tex (road) is a pleasant difference from what I expected.

I feel like he made a comment right after the trade went down about wanting to come back to Kansas City eventually... can't remember what he said exactly, but I immediately dismissed it as a typical Zackism

Think its any coincidence that when Dyson has a good game, the Royals have a good game? Can't help but think his base speed is getting in the heads of starting pitchers.

I don't have the link, but got it on Twitter from Dutton.

The Royals have promoted Jake Odorizzi and Wil Myers to AAA Omaha this morning.

Sweet! If Myers rakes in AAA I wonder well the hell they play him if he makes it up to big leagues shortly.

More fastballs for the guys hitting while he's on base + pitchers using slide steps to limit the running game. MUCH, much better hitting situation (and why it makes great sense to put Hosmer in the two-hole right now).

Hopefully put Meyers in Franceur's spot and trade Frenchy. Good guy in the clubhouse, but maybe able to get something in return.
