Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

They hand out bear spray? Wow at around $45-$50 a can for the good stuff, that sounds like a wild west story. Do you have a link for this free bear spray, I would love to read more about this.

As far as gun vs spray, we are never going to agree on that. Like I said, I have had cans explode on me twice. (Have pictures from last year) I have no desire to try to beat back a bear with an empty bear spray can.

The best way to avoid using either is not to put yourself in a situation where something large and hairy is trying to eat you. Understanding ones surroundings and knowing how to act in bear country is the best defense.

There are also times things are going to happen. I came face to face with a large grizzly this summer at close range. It stood up let out some huffs and took off. I was happy it worked out that way. I came flying around a corner on my atv and there he was cutting across the trail.

People have to buy the bear spray but it's in stores all over the place. How did you manage to blow up the cans?

AR?

Hello all, haven't been on CP much lately but do read every weekend. Thinking about an AR. Which to buy what is the CP experts recommendations? I have no experience with an AR but used to shoot quite a bit, still deer hunt and have several rimfires and used to quail hunt a ton. Just don't have any ideas for an AR. Probably want to stick with a .223 for sure and would like to keep it around 1K for the purchase price. Tell me whats out there and what's good....also I hear its getting easier to get ammo? Got a few buddies with reloaders so can buy brass if it's affordable but once again don't have any experience with reloading other than shotguns....Help me out if your inclined! Thanks. bt.

That's like asking a group of people what kind of beer is good, you're going to get a lot a different answers. If you are going to stick to that 1K range, I would look at a Colt myself. I would start with a quality gun and throw on what you want one item at a time, scope etc. I would make sure to get one that will shoot .223 AND 5.56 ammo.

.223 / 5.56 ammo has come back and is easy to find right now at a reasonable price, as well as extra mags. With that being said, one school/mall/movie theater shooting could change all that again and fast. WHEN the next crazy douche shoots something up the media whores will run their mouth to pimp up their ratings. They will claim all guns that go bang are evil, that everyone that has an AR or and AK is the Devil and just loves to kill small children! Liberal politicians also like to ride the "guns are evil" bandwagon after a shooting. With that being said, stock up on ammo and mags right now, while they are reasonable.

I have no idea what the hell went on. rockymtnchief, myself and another guy were riding last year on one of our ATV trips. We got to an area to do some shooting and when I opened the ATV box, the thing had exploded all over the place. I didn't take any pictures of the first one. (RMC saw it) On the second one, I was at around 10,000 feet swinging some fly line and there was a BOOM!

I didn't think much of it at the time but when I got back to my ATV the can had blown up that was in my soft bag on the front of my ATV. I'm just glad I wasn't riding it at the time of I would have got a shot right in the face. The pepper spray outfit replaced both cans along with an explosion proof container and would have replaced the bag if I could have found the top of the can. I have no idea how far or where that thing went.
