If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

You would think that Geno's accuracy, combined with his arm strength, which is very good, would have him rated nearly as high.

I personally like him better than Stafford, but I can understand how he would be rated a little behind him.

What I don't get is how either could be considered lesser prospects than Bradford.

He may or may not have been worth the #1 pick but he still struggles with those same exact issues. I remember watching him during the 2008 season throwing dumb interception after dumb interception thinking "This is the #1 guy?".

Four years later, his teams went 2-14, 6-10, 10-6 and 4-12. Stafford still has the same issues.

Without Megatron, the dude would be much worse.

If this question needs to be asked, then no, he not worth the #1 overall pick.

That goes for ANY QB, not just Smith.

I don't think Stafford has it up stairs. Seems he's just a frat boy, with a cannon for an arm.

And in regards to Bradford, I'm still fairly high on him. He needs some weapons to throw too, but I think he's got a decent chance to be successful, with his accuracy.

My question is, though, was Bradford really a better prospect coming out than Geno Smith is right now?

Well, first off, I think Bradford was in a much better situation at OU. That place is a talent factory.

Second, IIRC, Bradford had alot of injury concerns heading into the draft, and still went first overall.

I think Geno's bad defense hurt him a little, and he didn't put up the numbers late he did early.

As far as a prospect, I think Smith is a little better in that he's built a little sturdier and has a better arm.

stafford had major wow factor coming out...his arm was as electric as any i've ever seen in college....he was a bit erratic, but then would blow your mind with a throw...I never wanted a QB like I wanted him

Smith doesn't have his arm...but is a much more composed passer

Luck and RG3 have made it impossible to evaluate QBs potential though...totally skewed expectations

stafford was a bigger deal coming out, imo...but he'd suffer the same as this class in the post-Luck era

Bradford didn't hold a candle to Stafford coming out, imo...but i admit to still being biased against the spread then

I wouldn't think so. I would say Bradford would be about neck-and-neck with Barkley.

Of course, I think a lot of the perception with this year's QBs has to do with wins and losses. So maybe Bradford still goes first, although he was injured the whole season.

In any case, I don't think this QB class is any weaker than in any other "normal" draft class. Nobody with Andrew Luck's pedigree should not mean nobody of any value at all. It's a double-standard. Other positions get artificially elevated, both OT and DT this year in my opinion, but quarterback value is almost always lowered. Maybe it's a holdover from the old CBA, when you really could hurt your franchise for a decade if you busted on a QB with a $60-million contract. But the idea of any other position being "safer" than QB is outmoded now, and people need to stop thinking that way.

(The league already has, with so many QBs going earlier in the last few drafts than they were projected by "experts")

I have to think BPA has multiple factors that are included when evaluating. Need and position would have to be a part of the equation.

If Bradford was in this years class, would you take him 1 overall? Just knowing what we knew when he was a prospect?

It certainly has to factor in.

Otherwise, in the 2012 draft, when the Pack needed defense it was just a lucky coincidence that the best player available when they picked in every round just happened to be a defensive player.
