You're going to hate the sequels, so you might as well get used to the idea that you're going to hate them.

Remains to be seen.

Abrams pulling his usual BS and Ford taking a backseat to Carrie Fisher don't inspire confidence, though.

If that's the direction taken, that will be because of Kennedy and Lucas, not Abrams.

Popularity has never been the best measuring stick for quality. Regardless of how much they made at the box office, or how many copies they've sold on tape/disk since, the prequels were not good movies. For a variety of reasons. Fortunately a lot of the problems with those movies can be fixed/prevented in the new trilogy (as well as the other upcoming SW movies). And I think that at the end of the day, it's not impossible to create movies with appeal for both 4 year olds and people who were 4 years old when episode 4 came out.

If Disney/Lucasfilm can create a movie that can do what you've described, it should not only win every award ever, it should have an award named after such an accomplishmment.

I was 5 when SW IV came out and we saw it when it first came out at the Glendale on Metcalf. We went to TONS of movies back then, once a week at the Twin Drive-in, another at Truman Corners during the weekend. I have no idea how my parents had the prescience to make the trek over to the Glendale opening weekend for that show [we probably saw 5 movies there from 5yo-10yo], but I'm glad they did.

It's amazing how much SW stands out. No way to prove it, but I feel I could still quote that movie today if I had only seen it that one time. Plus, they had a life-sized Darth Vader in the lobby. That was impressive to a 5 yo.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Pixar's been doing that exact thing for years.
