Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

It is in poor taste, but removing the emotional attachment to a friend is a difficult thing to do. I can't hate on players who want to remember his good side as they were with him every day for the last 5 months and have known him 4 years.

They're mourning the loss of a friend. That mourning isn't easy, despite people who stand on the sidelines and pretend they know how they'd perfectly react in that situation. It's one thing to judge the actions of the guy, it's another to judge the actions of close, for all intents and purposes, family trying to make sense of the situation.
They are indirectly defending his actions by leaving the locker intact and wearing that shit. His locker needs to be dismantled and his name needs to be stricken existence. That scumbag doesn't deserve continued recognition.

Sorry but no one is getting a pass here.

He died, punishment enough for his actions.

HAD HE NOT KILLED HIMSELF not one person here would be arguing he should be set free and allowed to play today. We would all/teammates included think he should get punishment.

But at this point there are no actions that he did that seem like something a rational/ normal person would do.

His teammates and friends are upset he's gone, upset he did what he did, but they don't know "that guy" because by all accounts no one had seen "that guy" prior.

That's how mental illness happens sometimes.

I think it's absurd that some of you are telling someone else how to mourn. They aren't remembering a murder, they are remembering a close friend and teammate.

People can handle the situation anyway they want emotionally to help ease the pain.

They aren't defending anything. He was their friend. It was a tragic ending that happened to everyone involved. They are and should be free to mourn how they see fit.

We're already seeing news articles blaming this tragedy on head injuries and drugs. Hell, you have Duhnise and others placing the blame on mental illness. Jevon Belcher killed an innocent woman and orphaned an innocent child. The bastard doesn't deserve to be mourned. This is my final say on the matter.

Yeah, and posting pictures like Bowe did is ****ing dumb thing to do because it's insensitive to the actual victims.

And by victims, I don't mean his colleagues that he had known for a couple of years, I mean the family members of the girl.

Thanks for the update, dick.

I'm glad you want to morally tell everyone how to feel after a tragedy. No one is condoning his actions, but people are grieving in their own way.

I'm glad you want to tell everyone the appropriate way to do that.

Thank you for the shocking revelation. Surely this will convince people to not be sad about losing someone they were very close to.

The people you're criticizing have had a friend taken away from them, and as a result they are GRIEVING. They are in the exceptionally early stages of doing so. Stop being dumb.

If someone cant comprehend the difference between Belcher who has no history of anything bad, snapping due to addiction, head trauma or a crazy GF, and then killing her in a moment of blind rage to a man who spent 20 or so years molesting little boys, then I don't know what to tell you dude.

I posted yesterday that there possibly could have been a moment had a loaded gun been handy I may have shot me ex-wife. I was that irate. She put me through emotional and financial hell and showed absolutely no remorse or regret the whole time.

I have never in my life hit a women or performed any act of DV but I cannot honestly tell you had a gun been within reach a few times I wouldn't have shot her.

Its been 12 years since my divorce and I am happily remarried but I can look at those moments and think it could have happened. Its called being honest with yourself.

Makes it hard to just pass judgment as you and other have done.

The important thing is that this could create division which can hopefully create more losses.

No, they are not. That is totally ridiculous. They are friends with the guy. Never once have I heard anyone even remotely imply that they defend what the guy did.

Again, more than anything, every story you hear is about confused friends who said he was a great human being, and they can't understand how he snapped. I don't see anything unusual or wrong with this reaction. They sound very sympathetic to the families involved. And they seem very confused and saddened by the loss. The idea that we should be sending messages to grieving friends that their friend was in fact a scumbag and they should stop thinking about him is unbelievably insensitive.
