Labor Day Weekend.
Mrs. Radar and I are going and have preregistered but they sent us a list of rules. Here is the abbreviated version.

REQUIREMENT: PRE ‘65 RODS & KUSTOMS, OLD SCHOOL
LOW RIDERS, (MODIFIED) PRE-75 TRUCKS, WAGONS,
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, ‘CYCLES, SCOOTERS*
(*EXCEPTIONS MUST BE APPROVED IN ADVANCE) NOSTALGIA,
TRADITIONAL & LOW BUCK ONLY NO HIGH TECH OR MUSCLE CARS.
NO BILLET. NO SILLY MODERN WHEELS.

They sent us a longer list of requirments along with the registration form and its kind of extensive. Mrs. Radar already sent in a picture of her car so we’re qualified but my problem with this is: I’m a gear head, I'm going to meet other gear heads and bench race. I’m not in this thing to be a snob, that’s also why we wanted a restomod and never even considered doing something like a numbers matching resto.
But I’m also a nOOb to Greaserama, this’ll be my first time, and maybe there’s some history I’m missing that lead to it being so strict. Maybe it’s just an aspect of the KC culture I don’t get.
Anyone ever been that can fill me in on what the deal is, knows what the scene is like?

It's a kind of hipster thing, lots of Betties, greasy hair, mechanic shirts, and tattoos. But it's fun and cool and all, and looking at the low-tech blacksmithing done on some of their cars is very interesting.

Thanks Brock. So what’s with the rules, they get invaded with imports causing problems or something?

They just want a certain look, unlike other car shows where you'd see a 71 Chevelle parked next to a bare metal rat rod.

Yeah, if you think it's a "restored, numbers matching" type deal, you're taking it the wrong way. Most of what you'll see there are a lot of Frankenstein cars, where they've done something really unusual but low tech to it. Think Rat Rod, that's what you're going to see until your eyes bleed. But your car will fit right in, too.

We’ve been encouraged to go by several people and they all say the same thing, that it’s a great time. And everyone we’ve met there through KC Rockabilly have all been very friendly people, that’s why I was just a little surprised by the list of requirements. Sounds like I was making too much of it though.
