very very cool! setup or not Billy's pretty damn cool.
I just love music, and I love cool stories about music almost as much. never understood why so many at the top become assholes.

The kid probably plays like that all the time on his own or in front of his friends. He may have a good future with it. That was making an opportunity and taking it to the house. |

Though Billy Joels more my wifes kind of music than mine I must say I'm glad I saw him in 86 at the Syracuse carrier dome.
The concert landed just a couple of days after a blizzard came through of epic proportions. Many figured the concert would be cancelled but then it was announced the concerts still on. Only the main streets were clear by concert time the airport there still in chaos. Then Billy Joel walked out on stage thanked everyone for coming said how it was a hard call etc.. After he talked a bit he said lets get this show started...but first things first... Then he pointed to the furthest back row up top I mean all the way back the people looked like ants compared to where we were... he told those people to come on down follow the security guards I saved the front row just for you. The crowd was like holy shit is this for real. He had to have that in mind all along blizzard or no blizzard but it was just perfect timing for an area that just got punched in the face by mother nature...a nice gesture the money those seats couldve been sold for. And though at the time I was pure metal head he did put on one hell of a show I'll never forget. |

I have no idea if Billy Joel has a rep for being a dick, and I think this is a really cool video and memory for that kid... but really, Joel's options here were "let the kid play" or "turn the audience against him and look like a total douche."

I disagree. I don't think anyone would have thought less of him at all if he'd said something like "I'm flattered, but I'm really not prepared to do something like that."

William Joel HAS to be bad, since he failed to die young.
