The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Let's see, Albert wants more than we will give him so we let him seek a trade. He finds Miami, wants more than they will pay him.

He's a Chief, probably lowers his price and signs long term soon.

I'd rather get the 3rd from a team. It's gonna be a higher pick, plus if they are active in FA again isn't there a chance it could cancel the comp pick out?

If Brandon Albert wants more money than Miami will pay they won't trade a conditional 7 for him. They already had the trade worked out with us, that's why they had permission to work out a contract.

The issue isn't between Miami and KC.

Do Reid or Dorsey have any contacts to the Miami brass? Is it at all possible that the Dolphins are doing us a solid by "negotiating" with Albert and telling him he isn't worth as much as he thinks?

I agree. I think they just had so many holes to fill and so many players to replace that they couldn't depend on the draft to do it all.

This will be the last year in awhile that the Chiefs will be this active in FA.

From here on out, they are gonna have to stay close to the cap because of the implemented "floor".

We should absolutely get a comp pick for Albert in the 2015 draft if we can't lock him up.

Me neither. I think this year was a special usage of FA's this off-season. I think the draft will be the emphasis.

Sorry but eventually you gotta put this on Albert. If two separate teams aren't willing to pay you what you want, that's on him
