Ill say and love seeing Speaks shove right in the face of the naysayers. That kid is getting it fast.

I don’t think Rex Ryan would be a good fit in an Andy Reid locker room.

For whatever reason, it seems that defensive players take longer to adjust to the pros than offensive players. That these guys are looking good their rookie year is a very encouraging sign.

Remember when everyone lost their shit over Chris Ballard being allowed to go to Indy and then Clark firing Dorsey?
Ballard doesn't seem to be exactly killing it over there. |

And it'll flip back to that narrative next time we lose a game.

Like him or not Veach isn't going anywhere, not after spotting and making Andy take a look at Mahomes.

Defense is similar but with more responsibility to knowing what that other team is doing, how they are lining up, making sure you read and react properly. It does take a defensive unit in general longer to jell.

Defense is all about recognition. They have a different, and harder, learning curve than just about every offensive position except QB.

Ryan's scheme IS Sutton's scheme, more or less. All these individual schemes rely on specific skillsets in specific positions. If you don't have that in place, it ain't gonna work. This is why I've been critical of Sutton, as I feel he's largely trying to slam square pegs into round holes. I felt like Sunday night was the first time I saw some real change in mindset from him, and I hope it continues. Loved the Speaks/Jones overload, for example. And I thought O'Daniel was excellent, and will be a nice piece going forward as he allows for a lot of schematic flexbility.
I liked the draft before the season, and was scratching my head the first several weeks, but now that we're starting to see these guys some, I'm feeling pretty good about the haul overall. And I like how Veach never sits still; so whether it's Peterson or some more reclamation projects, I expect we'll see some new faces either way. |
