Dynasty League Owners/Commissioners...
I'm currently a co-commish in a keeper league. We're looking at the possibility of turning it into a dynasty league but neither one of us has any experience in that type of league.

Any help you can offer? Advice?

It'd be awesome if you posted your rules or league by-laws. Roster sizes? What kind of waiver wire system do you use?

I'm sort of co-commissioning a dynasty league. The big thing is finding people who are dependable -- and allot plenty of time for your draft.

We have a 12 team league, 30 rounds and the draft nearly took 5 hours.

Mr. Plow is the full fledge commissioner - he could probably help more.

I'm in a number of dynasty leagues and have commished one for 9 years. It's all about what you want the league to feel like. One league is 10 man league, 21 player rosters with 11 keepers. It's a almost a redraft league that you get to maintain your core, but with short rosters and people love it - there are people on the ww and teams can go from last to first in a year. I'm also in a 14 man league with 28 player rosters - very static, slow and developmental with nothing on the waiver wire and it takes a while to recover from some bad drafting and trades but rewards patience, research and thoughtful team building.

I think as of right now we're looking at a 12 man league with a 16 player roster (+1 IR spot).

No....you'd be keeping your entire roster. Every subsequent draft after the initial one would be for rookies and current free agents in the dynasty.

A 16 player roster will be very shallow then. You will find rosters dominated by producing vets and a number of quality starters will likely be on the ww. This will put emphasis on the elite players at their positions, a lot of competition on the ww and make only a handful of rookies viable each year as most don't produce year 1. Developmental guys like Lattimore or Hunter most likely won't even be rostered as people have to use their free spots for byes and injuries.

Ours was 12 teams, 30 rounds + IDP. It was a lot of fun.

We only have an IR spot on ours.

Our first draft will probably be around 3 hours. I think we may be looking at a roster size of around 20-22 with 1-2 IR spots.

I think we're determining right now if we're going to create a completely separate league from the current keeper league that we're running and start off with a smaller buy in.

We actually did the same exact thing.

It was my first dynasty draft - and it takes a slightly different skill set then your normal redraft or keeper league.

We did a 30 round draft, plus 10 waiver pick ups after the draft. But, keep in mind ours is IDP. Which I would highly recommend.
