Chief Salaries and Cap room Web Pages
Chief Salaries off the Warpath site:
http://www.chiefswarpath.com/resourc...ersalaries.htm Espn's 2004 Salary Cap page. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...ohn&id=1510617 2003 Chief Salaries: http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/footb...r=2003&team=16 How accurate? Your guess is as good as mine. Just providing the links without endorsement......but the Chiefs being $6.6 million under the cap really chaps me. $6.6 mil could have got us help in the secondary. Better LB's etc. To leave that money on the table is inexcusable. Can we get a big... Dammit Carl! |

We've got some talented players for really cheap and then some terribly overpaid players with a few years still left on their contracts.

And yet some Planeteers like to harp on Denver's salary cap violations during back-to-back SuperBowls, even though it was a case of not reporting salary changes rather than being technically over the cap. How ironic.

according to the warpath link, we've got $50,605,000 in committed money, not counting signing bonus. We'll likely cut Barber and his $2.2 salary, Holliday and his $2.2 salary and maybe even McCleon and his $1.5 salary. Maz and his $1.0 salary will be gone as well. Fujita doesn't show a salary beyond this season, nor does Biesel, but I'd assume they'll re-sign both on the cheap at around $800,000 the first year at the most.
If we line up with these starters on D we'd have somewhere around $11,147,000 invested in our starters: Allen $305,000, Sims $832,000, Browning $1.2, Hicks $1.0 Fujita ($800,000 estimated), Mitchell $380,000 and Biesel ($800,000 estimated) Bartee ($800,000) Warfield $3.3, Woods $865,000, Wesley $865,000 Offense lining up we'd have around $27,050,000 in our starters Green $4.7 Holmes $2.415 Gonzo $3.3 EK $1.595 Morton $3.0 TRich $1.25 Roaf $3.0 Shields $4.3 Waters $1.625 Welbourn $1.2 Wiegmann $665,000 Only Morton can I see them doing something with on offense, but when you've got $15,000,000 more invested in offense than defense, I guess you should expect to have a team as lopsided as ours is. Until those numbers start to swing the other way some, and as a result we lose our offensive star power, the history we've created in the Vermeil era is doomed to repeat itself. |

The first thing that should be pointed out about the ESPN link is that salary cap room reflects as of the date of July 15th, it has likely changed since then as I don't think that number included the 2004 draft picks.
Quote:
Denver was found to be in violation of the league rules and lost a draft pick because of it. KC didn't spend up to the cap this season, but to say that it is costing us a chance to win a Superbowl (if that is where you are going) is guessing at best. What we should have done was sign a player with a big ($5.0 range) first year salary and little to no bonus on a one year deal. Hopefully they have reworked some of the contracts of existing players to include "likely to be earned incentives" like Minnesota did so that we are creating more cap room for next year. You know, so we can then not spend up to that level and as fans can bitch about not spending it next year. |

Yeah the agent involved stepped up and donated a $100K cause there was no wrong doing and the Donks just didn't "report" it... If that makes you feel better then feel free to keep on dreaming it.

They could easily can Johnnie Morton. In no way shape or form has he even come close to earning damn near what Tony Gonzalez is making.
Maybe if they paid him for every dropped pass or every time he fell down, or every time he gave up on a play he might earn that much, but unfortunately for him, none of those things are good things. That entire defense could hit the bricks for all Im concerned, save for Lional Dalton and Jared Allen. They are the only two on this defense that look like they care about winning the game. Being 6 mil under the cap really pisses me off, with the shape that this defense is in. At no time should any professional football franchise ever be content with what they have, and not want to bring in a better player at a certain position. The simple fact that that very thing happened really makes me question the front office's want for a championship, over just filling the stands.
