Curious for a feel for how hard or easy CPers find it.

Wondering if the degree of difficulty is being sensationalized for clickbait, or is an accurate description of the difficulty level.

Please no googling, and spoiler the answer and your steps is you already know it or figure it out. But try to give an honest appraisal of the problem.

I didn't think it was that hard, but I have tons of experience with logic problems. In addition to my younger days as a mathlete, I've also studied CS and philosophy, and have a degree in math. So this kind of problem is right up my alley.

Not difficult at all. We have a unit on logic for elementary teachers and do problems like this consistently.

Bernard knows the day, but he didn't know at first, so that eliminates May 19 and June 18, as the numbers are unique. Albert knows Bernard doesn't know based on that, so that means it eliminates June 17, otherwise Albert wouldnt know it couldn't be June. That also eliminates May so that leave July or August. I don't think August is right because then neither could know which day it is, so it's go to be July. Since Bernard knows it before Albert, that means the date must be unique, and since August 14 and July 14 are the same number, it's got to be July 16. __________________

A knows the month and the only way he knows B, knowing the day, doesn't know the exact date, is that it has to be a month with no non-unique days. This eliminated May and June, because no other months contain an 18th or 19th. B says he now knows the date upon hearing this, meaning it must a non-duplicated remaining day, leaving only 7/16, 8/15 and 8/17. B already knows the exact day, but we still need to deduce which of the remaining candidates it is. A knows also upon learning THIS because he knows the month. This tells us that it must be 7/16, because if it were 8/15 or 8/17 A would not be able to distinguish between the 2. 7/16 __________________ We need the kind of courage that can withstand the subtle corruption of the cynics - E.W.
