Shields a friendly reminder of how great Carl Peterson was

Drafted Will Shields, Tony Gonzalez, Derrick Thomas, Jamaal Charles, Tim Grunhard, Larry Johnson, Jared Allen, Dave Szott, Donnie Edwards, John Tait, Dale Carter, Greg Wesley, Dwayne Bowe, Derrick Johnson, Jerome Woods, Reggie Tongue, Jerry Ostroski, Joe Horn, Jay Leeuwenberg, Brandon Flowers, Branden Albert, and Tamba Hali. Also picks up future hall of famers Joe Montana, Willie Roaf, and Marcus Allen. Oh, and there was that Priest Holmes guy.

As a non-Chiefs fan, I can appreciate a good general manager who contributes to the league the way Carl Peterson did. He was a solid GM who was thrown out coming off a slam dunk 2008 draft and replaced with Scott Egoli.

We light a candle for you this week King Carl, knowing you're reading somewhere.

So over 20 years with seven draft picks per year, he made some good picks?

Bufkin's greatest troll-job yet...that he isn't a Chiefs fan.

King Carl was good for the franchise, and as much stupid shit that he did he also did some great things. That said, he was given way too long of a leash and he more than outstayed his welcome. It was time to move on for both parties.

If you really are a Falcon's fan Buf, what do you think of Pioli so far? Since he's only an assistant I doubt you really know which decisions...if any were his I guess.

Let's list his starting QB's and what they accomplished. Truly great GM's get the right QB and put their teams in a position to win something long term. He never did that.

The Gannon thing was a complete fail. He should have ate the Elvis deal and kept Gannon.

Yep. He wasn't a great GM, he wasn't a terrible GM. He was exactly like the teams he fielded...mediocre.

He brought in Asamoah which was great, being he's easily our best offensive lineman. Also most likely a big reason we got him for as cheap as we did for 5 years. He was also a big part of us drafting Vic Beasley at number 8 this year. The rumor was that Dimitroff wanted to trade up to draft Dante Fowler, but Pioli insisted that they stay put. If that's truly the case, Pioli deserves the key to the city. A lot of people around Atlanta think that if we suck again this year, Dimitroff will be shitcanned and Pioli will take over. I know Chiefs fans think he's the reincarnation of Vlad the Impaler, but I don't see it.

The sole negative of Pioli being in Atlanta so far would be the Tyson Jackson contract. A long term deal for an underperformer who has less than 0 pass rushing ability. That was undoubtedly a Pioli signing that has been pretty useless so far.

Face it the Chiefs were the laughing stock of the NFL from '72 until Carl...there is a reason Arrowhead is what it is today, and a lot of it has to do with Carl. I think many posters here have no idea how bad it was.

He was a good GM, he made the clarks a lot of money, reinvigorated a franchise with the help of Marty and the players they acquired together, and he put forth the best Chiefs experience for a youngin such as myself. Yeah we wanted a Super Bowl, but in the end I was happy in the late 80s and 90s knowing I grew up around the best Chiefs teams of my life. I'm not lighting a candle, but thanks Carl.

Carl Peterson was a good general manager.

The key word there is "was".

Early in his career he was stellar but then I don't know he kinda sucked afterwards.

Carl reminds me of a car. When you first buy it brand new it's amazing. Every component of the vehicle is brand new, fresh, crisp, effective and ready to go. And the car will drive well. But then once you put mileage on the car and don't maintain it year after year what happens? It's gonna wear out eventually, as will most of the components of the vehicle. And then the car doesn't run as well. That's how Carl was like.
