What's your favorite wine?

For us wine drinkers, I'm curious about your favorite "drinking" wine (as in, something uner $15 a bottle).

I'm partial to the 2002 Hill of Gold Shiraz (Rosemont Estates) and the 2002 Coppola Premium Claret. Right now, I'm drinking a 2003 Coppola Zin.

If you've had Burgundy (or a good champagne) you've had Pinot Noir. It's a notoriously fickle grape to grow, but part of the pricing can also be blamed on popularity gained by the movie "Sideways."

Good reasonable priced wines:

Cabernet - Raymond Vinyards - R Collection.
Riesling - Clean Slate Reisling. There's also a decent Riesling called Petals that sells for around $7.00.

I had a decent Pinot Noir called Hinman's or something like that (under $20).

My recommendation would be that once you find a wine you like stick with it, or if you want to change stick with the same type from the same region.

For decent Pinot at a good price, look for a red wine with 'Bourgogne' on the label, and not a lot of other French nomenclature. Red Bourgogne is 'basic' or generic Burgundy and made from Pinot Noir. The Louis Jadot or Drohin LaForet that I buy usually runs $12-$18. If you like this (and you probably will)...the price for better Burgundy goes straight up from here. I stay with these 'generic' burgundies in this price range, but you may have lotsa moola. Good for you!
For US Pinot - Sideways ruined it for us. I visit Oregon often enough that I have a few sentimental favorite Pinot's from there (Adelsheim, Domaine Drohin) but unless it's a celebration bottle I stick with Bridgeview 'Blue moon' Pinot from Oregon or Gallo of Sonoma Pinot from California. I know, Gallo is the evil empire and all that. But this is pretty good juice for the dinero.

One of my other favorites, which I have enjoyed a lot is Freemark Abbey. I drink primarily cabs, and this is incredible but a little pricey.

Franciscan Oakville Estates is a very nice Cab with an obvious Oaky taste for just around $20.
The On The Edge wines are good. A little pricey. The Jean Louis Vermeil is their flagship. They are proud of it at about $60/bottle. It is good though.

I make my own wines and I especially like the fruit wines I have made in the past. I made Peach and Blackberry (from the fruit I grew) a year ago and they are just now getting REALLY smooth. I have 5 gallons of Strawberry that has been sitting on its own lees for 3 months and will transfer it to a new carboy with just the right amount of sugar tomorrow. Then a week or 2 before bottling. In 6 months or so, WOOHOO!

Mac grill rocks.

Favorite wines are Robert Mondavi or Trinchero Family Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nobilo from New Zeland is good at under $20 a bottle.

Angeline is also a pretty good bottle under $15.

I think she has been paying $31-$35 a bottle for the cabs she has been giving me. I will have to drop a hint about the Jean Louis Vermeil this year. I am continually impressed at a lot of cabs once they reach that magic 7th year in the bottle.

I don't drink much white wine.
I would have to agree on the Silver Oak cab.
I just had three bottles of the 97 vintage with dinner two weeks back.

I like Pepi wines their cab and chard both drink well.

For pinot the la crema is great.
