Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Since you don't own a handgun, please tell me you've at least held/shot a Glock before thinking about stock piling mags with no gun.

I told my oldest brother a month ago about the 10 Pmags for $105.

He brushed the deal off because they didn't have "the window".

Guess who just asked me if I wanted to sell some of my 30 round magazine stockpile?

He won't lose money on it. In fact, he will probably triple his money if he wants to sell any high-cap mags.

The one thing I am worried about is the stoppage of +10 mags. Buy them while they are out there.

My brother owned a 9mm Glock back in the 90's. He found a high-cap magazine for sell at a gun show for $60 (during the ban) and grabbed it.

Prices will skyrocket on the existing stock of large magazines.

Buy the mags NOW. The handguns will always be available.

I just talked the wife into being OK with buying a handgun today ...probably going to go with a Glock 19.

I light of this new story - http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012...n-gun-control/ - it looks like obama is planning on going further with gun control legislation rather than just reinstating the previous ban.

I made an ammo purchase earlier this morning.

500 rounds of 7.62x39
250 rounds of .40 S&W

Everybody seems to be running out of .223/5.56 and 7.62x39, so I had to get a little for myself. Get some now while you still can.

Okay, so any recommendations from the board on .40 S&W rounds? I think I'll stick mostly with FMJ, at least for the time being. They seem to be truer firing rounds and most people I've spoken with recommend the FMJ for new guns.

Thoughts?

No lowers left here. Plus all the prices are from $99 to $149 from what I could tell. I haven't bought one before, but isn't that a little steep? Is that what we're facing here? If we're lucky enough to even find one, we'll be paying twice what we would have paid about 2 weeks ago.

FMJ rounds are not more accurate. They are less accurate, though it is barely noticeable at handgun range. Hollowpoints are generally manufactured to higher standards and it is what you should carry. Some firearms do not feed hollowpoints very well. It is highly unlikely that a gun chambered in 40 does not feed hollow points. Usually large single stacks and small calibers like 25 acp have that problem.

I'm not all that picky when it comes to pistol ammo. I generally buy the cheapest American-manufactured ammo (I only run cheap foreign shit through the AK, because that's what it's for). I've never had any problems.

I've heard that can be hard on pistols.

Having a clip full of +p hollow point makes sense for home protection, but if I'm just going out shooting for giggles and farts, do I really want to put that kind of pressure on the gun? Especially if I'm putting 100+ rounds downrange?

So I went into the gunshop for a Glock 19 and came out with a Springfield XD-9. I handled both and it just felt better in my hand. Plus it was cheaper, held one more round in the mag than the Glock, and had more safety features. Anyone else have one?
