Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark has canceled the media rides for its world's tallest water slide that were previously scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Verruckt opening delayed until end of June As work continues on the world's tallest water slide, the opening is now scheduled to be at the end of June. Kansas City area water coaster officially world's tallest Schlitterbahn's Verruckt 'not behaving properly' 'Insane' water coaster creates worldwide splash KCK attraction makes list for insane new U.S. roller coasters According to Layne Pitcher, the park's director of marketing and sales, the conveyer system that pulls the rafts up Verruckt's slide was experiencing some problems. They were working on it and say it's now functioning properly, but they want to continue to do more testing. Pitcher said they hope to reschedule the media rides at some point, but had no idea when that would be. Despite the media rides cancellation, Pitcher said the waterpark still anticipates Verruckt opening to the public on Sunday when the park opens at 10 a.m. Chopper5 was over Schlitterbahn Wednesday afternoon when two rafts were launch. The first raft navigated the first slide but couldn't make it up the first hill. Instead, the raft went backwards in the spray of the water. The second raft successfully navigated the rides. No one was on board either ride. Sources tell KCTV5 that riders have been down Verruckt successfully during overnight hours when testing has occurred. Doug Flora of Haas & Wilkerson was expected to be among the first to ride Verruckt when it opened for the media and others. While he's disappointed by the cancellation, he knows Schlitterbahn is doing everything it can to protect riders. "I feel very comfortable that this will be a nice safe ride for me and also for the community," Flora said. Verruckt's opening has been delayed multiple times. Schlitterbahn had been scheduled originally to debut the 17-story slide when the park opened for the 2014 season on May 23. But after officials said the slide was "not behaving properly" the opening was delayed until June 5. They then announced the opening would be June 29, which is also the same day that the Travel Channel will debut a special on the building of Verruckt. |

This may become the next ride in Springfield on the the simpsons.
http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/Escalator_to_Nowhere The Escalator to Nowhere is an escalator that leads to nowhere located near the Springfield Monorail, 50 Foot Magnifying Glass and the Popsicle Stick Skyscraper. best video I could find No offense to KC, because I loved living there. But why KC? Thought it would be better utilized in a city that could open it all year.

I'm not going on it until they landscape around that thing. No way I'm spending an hour waiting up there for such a crappy view.

Considering it was built with scab/illegal labor imported from Texas, I'm assuming the worst.

I wish to take back my answer on the grounds that the real betting should be on when, if ever, someone actually rides it.

It's not just about using non-union labor that concerns me. It's that they cut corners at every single turn (and were sued over some of those moves). One of the ways they did that was by bringing in construction crews from Texas that were non-union and highly suspected of being filled with illegal labor. There are non-union shops in the KC area (Crossland Construction, for example) that could have been employed on the job. At least then you're dealing with locals who are documented on the job site.

Would you rather slide or stick your arm in a hole on a river bank?
