You've seen the value of defense over the last two games. Withey, in particular, saved KU last night with his presence and effect on the game. Knowing that, why would you diminish its value in regard to the best defensive player we've seen in over a decade (Davis)?

First of all, "best anything over the last whenever" is subjective and should not be used to give awards.

Second, people aren't discounting defense. It's just strange that people all of a sudden got SO obsessed with it this year, to the point that they are going to give a guy who averages 14 and 10 the most prestigious award in the sport (and it only applies to one person, name another player that won any conference player of the year award based mostly on defense). It has never been a factor before, as illustrated by the list of all-time great defenders that never sniffed NPOY. Defensive players have their own award - there isn't an offensive player of the year trophy.

And as I said, special teams in football has value and wins/loses games, but you don't see great special teams players win MVP or get in the hall of fame.

But am I a KU homer? Yes.
