I learned something today
I've always heard the crowd at Invesco during games on TV and been reasonably impressed. Couple that with the fact that on big plays, you can see the cameras vibrating all over the place from all the noise. Must be an insane crowd, right?
Well, the stands are all metal. No concrete (at least in the club level and upper decks). If the entire stadium were empty, and you stomped your foot, a deaf guy would be able to feel it 50 yards away. A vast majority of the noise being put out by people on key plays is just people sitting in their seats and stomping their feet. The reason the camera looks shaky is because the entire friggen upper deck is vibrating through the metal. I'll give them a bit of a pass since 1) most people around here were pretty down on the team coming into it and 2) the game wasn't exactly competitive, but I was extremely underwhelmed by the atmosphere. Pretty boring crowd, all in all. I'm amazed that anyone EVER tried to compare Denver's crowds to KC's. Anyway, that may have been common knowledge (and is probably pretty common in stadiums these days), but I found it to be pretty lame compared to good old fashioned yelling for noise. P.S. The game sucked. |
