This has been my thinking all along: Clark has extension wrote up because Pioli is in 4th of 5 year contract. Will wait to officially offer til the season is over to see how the team is

This could really be a good sign. If there is tension between Hunt and Pioli about a buyout clause, that seems to indicate that Clark is going to hold him accountable for the team's results. The extension may only serve to make him more fireable, which is why Pioli wouldn't find it in his interest to sign.
