Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

That's a value judgment. It's not the same thing as stealing where you actually deprive someone of something though. If someone takes the DVD you own, you don't have it anymore and you can't watch it. If someone sneaks into the theater you own, you still have the movie and you can still sell tickets to the next show.

And I cannot actually believe I'm going to back JASONSAUTO, but the guy's right. It's just not a popular opinion, particularly in the media thread.

When you pay for one thing and take two, it's stealing, plain and simple. Don't like the price of the ticket? Don't go. Don't like $4 bottle water? Don't buy it. No one is forcing you to do any of these things. You can't justify theft by saying, "Well, I paid for other things."

It's not a common occurrence, but it has happened before -- and it's certainly not worth all this.... and like I said, until you're the one who has to enforce it, don't worry about it.
To me, it's nothing like pirating a movie via my hard disk and sharing it -- seeding it.

Not in this case. Clay wasn't going to see the movie, thus the theater would get no revenue. Since that particular showing was not sold out, the theater did not need to turn away a customer (revenue), so the theater got zero and gave up zero, thus its a breakeven.

Playing devil's advocate, by Clay sitting in that theater for 20 minutes, there was a chance the theater could have earned concession revenue if he got the munchies or needed a tasty beverage, thus in a better spot.

They also could get penalized for it if the movie is new and that theater has a theater checker in it. During the first 3-5 weeks of a movie run, theater checkers are paid to count audience and report vs ticket sales plus passes. Now, not every theater gets this audit, and one discrepancy won't trigger a problem, but if many people think the same way and data shows that a theater isn't controlling it's doors, there can be penalties like missing out on a good booking from the same distributer that flagged the problem.

It isn't just about one ticket that wouldn't have been purchased anyway.

IMO this is BS.

he still got the benefit.

now he says he wont see the movie.

would he have seen it had he not stolen that 20 minutes?

No. I rarely go to movies, and the trailer didn't really interest me.
