Unless you plan to load a boatload of music and video on the thing, I disagree with Param. The 16GB will be enough for all the apps and pictures you are likely to want on your iPad and there will be plenty of room for a healthy music collection and a handful of movies at the same time. By the time you start "needing" more space, you'll probably be looking to upgrade your iPad to a newer model anyway.

They cost more than a lot of laptops that do more than the tablet. The tablet is overpriced. You have to remember, Apple gets a lot of sales just because they are Apple. Throw an i in front of it and people will run to it.

Well, if lots of people are willing to pay for it, how can it be overpriced?

You are missing the point. They will pay whatever apple charges and won't even think twice because it is apple. Doesn't matter what it is worth to them. Thats just the fanbase. Imagine the sales they would have for this if they would have just priced it for what it is actually worth.

So if the cost was $10,000, you're saying the number of units sold would be the same? What about $50,000? $100,000?

JFC you know thats not what I meant. Most everything that apple sells is priced way over the competition and is on a closed system to boot. I'm not saying the ipad isn't a good product. I have messed around with one and I like it. But it isn't worth $500. Especially for a base model.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, just agreeing with the previous post that if lots of people see the value in them and are buying them, then I wouldn't call them overpriced.

My example was just an extreme one where they would obviously be overpriced and units sold would clearly prove it.

It almost seems as if what you're really saying is not that they're overpriced, but that Apple is making too much profit on them...

People spend more on brand name products which are identical to the cheaper generics in some cases, it's nothing new. Guru's point is that people are paying for the brand, which is overpriced for what it is. Guru is correct and it's not even worth arguing over.

I'm not trying to be a dick either. I've said I even like the product despite it being a extremely closed off system. To me that is an even bigger travesty than the price is. That being said, they would be making money on it even if they sold it for $349 which is what it should be priced. For what it does.

You have to admit anything with an i in front of it is sold for more than any of its competition. IMO the only thing they have that is almost worth the price is the ipod touch and even that is $30 more than it needs to be.

Several emulators available for iPad.... jailbreak only apps. But you can get emulators for NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, 64, etc.

And you can use a Wiimote as a controller...

The goal that companies have when setting a price is to choose the price that will generate the highest net profit. Apple appears to do a good job at setting their prices. I wonder if the have an internal app for that?

Just imagine the profits they could make if they would just tap into the in-between market of buyers that think it is over-priced.
