Shooting at Arrowhead- Chiefs player commits suicide

No details yet. Just came across on the news.

edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Exactly. So the fact that he killed himself makes commemorative acts ok now?

Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.

In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.

That is the message I wish Chiefs players, professional athletes and all of us would focus on Sunday and moving forward. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.

But we won’t. We’ll watch Sunday’s game and comfort ourselves with the false belief we’re incapable of the wickedness that exploded inside Jovan Belcher Saturday morning.

Gotta love liberal media idiots exploiting tragedy to push their bullshit agenda.

I don't know what's hard about this.

You really don't see the difference between a person who dies and a person who goes to jail?

I'm sure this point has been made here already.. but I'll state it again just in case. WE don't have any clue what the facts are here. Since Belcher committed suicide there will be no trial and it is likely all the facts will never come to light. I understand the feeling that we shouldn't make excuses for bad behavior but we also shouldn't make snap judgments from positions of almost complete ignorance. This applies to judging the players' reactions as well.

If you are referring to leaving his locker intact yea I have no issue with it.

I have yet to see one person say he didn't do something terrible. How you chose to feel about the circumstances or how you process what happened afterwards is up to you.

You chose to go total piece of shit route right out the gate.

I chose to wonder WTF happened that caused this. Regardless of that fact I feel he bears responsibility for his actions alive or dead. I am just not certain what that entails yet.

See the difference?

Or self defense or justifiable homicide (both extremely unlikely)... we simply don't know jack about this right now.

It will be interesting to see if more information comes out on all of this. The first story just seems to be a little too conveniently simple

It will be interesting to hear what the mother says, assuming she ever speaks publicly about it. Of course, other than to satisfy the public's morbid curiosity, there's really no need for her to do so.
