So there's the problem, instead of overpaying for those two, go overpay for a stud or player that profiles as a future stud.

Not all these prospects will work out, nor will we be able to afford to keep them all. Somebody's gotta go.

Castro? High end prospects for a underperforming head case.

Tulo? A shitload of high end prospects for a player that breaks down every year. No thanks.

The deal to make is with Texas.

The Rangers are only going to trade Profar for "an offer that can't be refused,"

That likely means three of our ten best young players/prospects and two of our best five.

It looks like they are going to discuss moving Kinsler to open up a spot for Profar.

I could see the Rangers trading Kinsler to the Dodgers then adding a FA OF'er.

The other thing the Cardinals could do...although I don't know how much it would really help, is to offer Joe Kelly for Erick Aybar.

He had a terrible year, but he should be something of a bounce back candidate. He'd be an 8th place hitter, but a much better one than Kozma, while also adding some speed.

In seven seasons as the starter Tulo averaged 120 games, skewed a great deal by two seasons. He doesn't have a history of knee or arm injuries that worry you about long term production. His production has been consistently solid, comparing favorably with the top 3B offensive producers. As Hamas mentioned if you have Tulo you can move Carpenter to third.

He averages 22 home runs a season, nearly 80 rbis, and a nearly .900 OPS. Compare that with our last 7 seasons of production at SS. If earlier reports are accurate that the main prospect the Rockies coveted was Miller, you have to listen. Especially if you think Martinez and/or Rosenthal's future next year is in the rotation. Waino, Wacha, Kelly, Lynn, Martinez/Rosenthal with Tulo at SS and Taveras added to the lineup would set us up for the next 5 years to seriously expect deep runs in the playoffs and hopefully a couple of WS rings. If they expect Miller AND Martinez you walk away, but we have others to dangle in a package that could work.

Again, I don't think they have enough starting pitching to be trading them away unless they are going to sign up an innings eater.

We have to give up something major to get Tulo. Miller is still not as established as say Lynn. Why not Lynn, Adams and a AA prospect?

Tulo seemed to have an attitude when we played them. Like he didn't really want to play hard. Maybe he was having a bad series.

Remember the first of this year when everyone thought we an abundance of pitching? We needed to trade some of this extra pitching. Turned out we didn't have enough pitching. Makes me leary but we need some offense. Gots to have it.

Even if we screw up every draft pick, we are still going to get another 5-6 years of opportunity to win a World Series.

I would rather trade Lynn, I just don't think that is who they want. If they do, sure. I would rather not include Adams, Craig's injury history worries more than Tulo. Although if we keep Beltran, I wouldn't flinch at that deal.

The Cardinals have eight legitimate ML starters. Some I hate, but they are legitimate starters, or will be:

Waino, Wacha, Miller, Lynn, Garcia*, Rosenthal, Martinez, and Kelly.

And guys like Lyons and Gast can give the team the 120 innings of bull**** that Jake Westbrook provided this year.

The team was counting on innings from Garcia this year and the mother****er broke down. Same with Westbrook. It was hoping for innings from Carp and got none. Moreover, Furcal never played a game, the closer never threw a single pitch, the set-up man imploded so spectacularly that he got traded for the equivalent of a warm Keystone Light, Craig missed the last month with a serious injury, Freese, Kozma, and Jay were far worse than could have been imagined, strategic managing was poor, no one could hit the ball out of the park, and the team still won 97 games.

Perhaps a meteor will hit Jupiter next March, but aside from that, we've proven we can win with significant injuries.

This team needs to do the following:

Significantly improve its ability to hit LHP
Improve its defense

You can do both by trading for Tulowitzki. He's a better defensive SS than Kozma, and he allows you to move Carpenter to 3B, absorbing the loss in his surplus offense by gaining defense and speed from Wong. And if Wong flops the team could still plug Freese in at third and keep Carpenter at 2B or try out Greg Garcia there.

Honestly, the team should do everything it can to keep Craig at 1B. He's had two serious lower body injuries now, both of which likely affect his mobility, but at this point he's the team's most consistent hitter.

Oddly, his injury makes Adams more expendable because it makes Craig less versatile, but unless he learns to hit LHP, Adams is the kind of guy that just kills teams in the postseason. He'll be a white Ryan Howard vs. Rzepczynski for the next half decade in those situations.
