Yep - Plex is definitely your best option.
(On a related note, I have no idea why Roku hasn't added a normal DLNA client as an app.) |

Thanks for the input. I've figured out how to stream media from my HD to Plex but what I can't figure out is the browser streaming/saving thing.
Couldn't get it to work and once I clicked off the tutorial I can't find the myPlex button/link again...

Plex is great for streaming media from your PC to your tv/phone etc. The browser streaming is crap though. Playon's PlayMark is much better in that respect. I guess that's why I use both. I really wish Plex would make a usable version of PlayMark on their software because I like Plex's interface much better, as well as being able to stream my movies from home on my pc at work and on my mobile.

Wasn't sure if there was a Plex thread or not but after their overhaul do they still have a streaming service?
I logged in and al it had saved was youtube files. NOTHING (music, vids, etc) from my computer showed up any more even after I paid for the 1 month...

They still do. Maybe a router/port issue?

I have a ROKU stick for my daughters bedroom.
At 3 years old she can connect to netflix and use the remote to browse to the show she wants to watch. It's so dumbed down that it is perfect for kids, and the USB to HDMI cable allows it to be powered by the TV itself that is hung on the wall. no mess. I also run Plex from my NAS, so she can connect to that and have nice looking menus to choose the movie she wants to stream. |

I thought I mentioned PLayOn in this thread but it must have been a different one. It's an extension for most browsers that lets you send whatever video you playing over the internet on your PC to your TV through your Roku. It works well enough most of the time but glitches occasionally.

Anyone interested in a Roku 3 cheap, Target's weekly ad has the roku stick listed for 49.99 but if you click on the ad it will also show the Roku 3 for 49.99. Here is the slickdeals link
Lot of people are getting price matches from BB and other stores. I purchased the last one on the shelf in my local Target. Had to show them the weekly ad on my phone. $51.67 out the door is worth the effort. |

I have a Roku 3 and I love it. I had an Apple TV 2 which was jailbroken it worked OK until Apple would update the AppleTV then there'd be a bit of downtime before the jailbreak would be patched to work again.
I have an Amazon Prime, Hulu+ and Netflix which cover most of my what I want to watch. There are some 3rd party channels I watch from time to time. I also run Plex on it so I can stream all the stuff from my computer. OH I also have MLB Extra Innings and watch the Royals when I can. |

Yeah it's a browser add on that searches for media on whatever page you are visiting, then streams it to your Roku.
