First of all, getting Tony Horne is good. Chiefs need a kick/punt returned and he fits the bill at a small price.
Trent Green? Different story. Yes, the Chiefs filled a hole for the short term, but the price was way to high. Guys like Trent Green are available all the time via free agency. This year, Elvis Grbac and Brad Johnson were available. Next year, who knows? Also, its my opinion that the Rams would have taken less for Green. Green makes big dollars and the Rams wouldnt have been able to afford him on their books this year. If nobody was interested in Green, he would have been cut, IMO. And What has Trent Green done besides make a lot of money? Nothing. He is a journey man QB. The Chiefs have had to many of those. Its moves like this that keep this team from getting any better than average. Its no wonder they havent won a playoff game in 8 years. You dont trade the 12th pick in a loaded draft for a journeyman QB who only a few years ago was an unrestricted FA. The last time the Chiefs drafted this high, they got the best tightend in football. Before that, they got a hall of fame linebacker. This year? They turned the 12th pick into another QB castoff. The Chiefs seem desperate to keep the seats full and give the fans a glimmer of hope. Bad trade by the Chiefs. |
