Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Styer made good rifles, and 30-06 is a great 'do it all' round, w/loadings from 'coyote' to 'buffalo or bear' available. (FWIW, I like 165 gr to 180 gr ammo in mine for deer) 30-06 is still a great bet, the .308 may be the current replacement for a 30-06 if such a thing exists, they're similar and the .308 is a shorter bullet/some rifle designs will cycle that 'short round' and not the 'longer' 30-06. 30-06 was our 'military ammo' in WWII, there's a ton of guns in that caliber.

Had a decent run playing cards last weekend... I picked up a Beretta 92 A1 from a pawn shop.

I've always wanted this hand gun.

I'm not a Glock guy or big full-auto fan, so someone can correct me, but I believe you'd be looking for the infamous G18. Which may or may not even exist in a form a regular US citizen can own. Rumors were always that there were a few, 5 or 6??, that made it into collectors hands, before the '86?? ban, never to be seen again. Supposedly, they're just a beefed up G17 with mods for select fire.

There used to be a Pro-shooter who seemed to posses one, but I believe it was allowed via her technically being employed by Glock and not actually being her gun.

Becoming a III dealer and having one in stock or getting one through permit if you're some type of law enforcement appears to be an option. I suppose you could go the "firearms manufacturer" route too? Either way you go, there appear to be plenty of moving flaming hoops you'd have to jump through. It's probably easier to just move to a more full auto friendly country and break out some cash.

OK, I've budgeted myself a little money to dress up my old Remington 870 Express a bit. I'm going to get an 18.5 inch barrel, a two round mag extension, a Magpul MOE forend and a new stock of some sort. Initially, I had decided on the Magpul SGA stock, but then I started seeing folding stocks and thought that one of those might be a good idea. The problem is deciding which one.

Does anyone here have experience with folding shotgun stocks? Am I better off just staying with the fixed Magpul stock?

stay with a fixed stock that can double as a hammer for smashing someone's face in if it comes to that. This is why I like a traditional wood stock on a shotgun. You never know when you might have to use it as a club.

I'm leaning towards the Magpul fixed stock mainly because I know they make quality stuff. The reviews on the folding stocks are all over the place.

I don't know much about guns because it's been 42 years since I ETS from the Army and I don't hunt. Also I use to live in Maryland, which has a lot of gun restrictions.

When I moved to Florida 3 years ago I went and got a concealed weapon permit, very easy with a DD214, a photo, a police report and $117, mail it to Tallahassee and wait six weeks. I believe it's good for 7 years. Where I live now I don't any worries about crime, but we do go into Orlando once in a while and it's nice to have. I would say Orlando has more crime than Baltimore.

I purchased a Ruger LCP 380 for $299, actually about half that after I traded in a couple of older pistols. I carry that in my front pocket. I did a lot of reading online, so for fun I bought a S&W MP 15-22 for about $375. I've made a lot of changes, between Amazon and Cheap as Dirt I've replaced and added a bunch of parts. Unfortunately I'm 30 miles from any ranges, so I've only gone shooting (plinking) twice.

I suppose you'd take a risk by not knowing the full condition beforehand, but for $450, is it worth it?

To each their own, but I wouldn't roll the dice on something from a 3rd world sand box unless it was a lot cheaper than $450. I have a feeling the term "Slightly Used" would turn out to be a bit subjective in this case.
