LiAngelo Ball, Some kid from KCK and another UCLA Player arrested in China
For shop lifting.
https://sports.yahoo.com/liangelo-ba...013958780.html If standard practices are applied, the three UCLA basketball players – including LiAngelo Ball – arrested Tuesday in mainland China under suspicion of shoplifting face between three and 10 years in prison if convicted, according a lawyer familiar with Chinese law who communicated with Yahoo Sports on the condition of anonymity because he doesn’t want to speak out about the Chinese government. The three men could be detained for more than a month without American-style bail before local prosecutors even decide whether to press charges, according to William Nee, a Hong Kong-based researcher of the Chinese court system for Amnesty International. |

They shouldn't drag this thing out. Lop off their hands and send them back home. Win/win.

Not sure why national news outlets are saying college basketball players may be held in Hangzhou, China for "a week or two." However, the quotes around "a week or two" explains it.
If the allegations prove to be true, there is nothing worse than serving draconian prison sentences in an authoritarian state. Opposing viewpoints than those of the ruling communist party of China will land you in prison. The only things a consular officer can do are visit the person in jail and provide a list of English-speaking lawyers. I find it shocking someone would think that high-ending stores would not have surveillance cameras in countries around the world. These are college students with a level of below stupid. If the allegations prove to be true, they will not be returning home for a long time. Note to college students: Authoritarian countries have harsh code of laws. Know each law before you travel to a foreign country or stay home. In one foreign country, cursing in public is a crime.
