If Grbac were in Cassel's shoes he would have been run out of town way before Cassel was. I think most people realize that Cassel was A problem and not THE problem as it seemed Grbac was. Matt has less talent but he's not the target of locker room smear campaigns the way Grbac was. In the end Grbac was run out of town by his teammates. Not his coach, GM, or the media and many fans that were very late to get on the Grbackup bandwagon.

So while it appears that Cassel is more hated, I think it was because it happened more quickly and intensely even though he has had more turmoil and change in his time here compared to Grbac, who had all of the pieces in place for him to succeed.

see, I just figured Vermeil came in and wanted 'his' guy at QB.

In fact, I remember Tony G publicly campaigning for Grbac to be retained by the new regime. I also remember Grbac throwing for like 4000 yards his last year here.

Wasn't it against Oakland that year that Grbac threw for like 500 yards and put up 31 pts...but they D gave up like 50 and we lost??

Most single game passing yards for a Chief, win or lose, I DO remember THAT.

Yeah, **** Matt Cassel.

Grbac>Cassel

The only way Cassel can throw for 500 yds is on Madden.

I do think Grbac was better than Cassel as far as Quarterbacking goes. But Grabac was a major Douche as a person.

I think Cassel is an ok person he just can't play Quarterback.
This is pretty much on target.

People didn't particularly want to dislike Cassel when he came here, but his on-field performance made it hard to do otherwise. Grbac was to a slight degree the opposite in that his on-field performance was better than his persona. However, his on-field performance was marked by mental lapses that kind of reflected his persona, so they melded together.

I don't "hate" either of them. They both came here and wanted to succeed. They just didn't, so we have to move on.

He beat out Gannon and that's why you're bitter. You remember a lot more vitriol for Grbac than there actually was.

If you listened to Tim Grunhard, Grbac was pretty disliked by the team. To the point that he was excluded from Christmas parties and other crap that you mostly associate with middle school aged girls.

I'm not bitter. I am sort of bummed I piled on the guy so badly because he was so pathetic. He was not a leader and many great athletes aren't. For all we know he was a great player but had some sort of social anxiety disorder or something. Who knows.

I feel the kind of cringy guilt about that I do when I think of how we treated 'reeruns' at school back in the day...

I see it the exact opposite way. Cassell was supposed to be the next Tom Brady.

Grbac didn't have that pressure and actually had talent but was a douche.

from a fan's perspective, he was hated because most wanted Gannon. He may have been a tool, but the fans don't care much about that.

Cassell is hated because he sucks.

Yeah, well...

he was better at throwing a catchable football than Matt Cassel.

Maybe instead of acting like middle-schoole girls, Grunny and some if the boys shoulda took Grbac out, got him drunk, drove him out to the middle of nowhere...and threated to beat the shit out of him if he didn't fall into ****ing step.

You know...deal with it like MEN, instead of a bunch of crybaby suckasses??

No WONDER the '98 team tanked so bad; all these 'thugs' were really a bunch of little girls.

He was hated because he did not deliver when all of the pieces were in place to succeed.

Cassel is hated because he could not succeed in putting in place all the pieces.

Time will be more friendly to Matt Cassel. Things going wrong in this organization were above and beyond him.

No disagreement here. But it just goes to show how much one person's attitude and/or lack of can impact an entire organization. Matt never lost his team and that is a tribute to him. He kept trying and working and his teammates saw that.

Grbackup was a quitter and his teammates saw that.

Matt Cassel is emblematic of those 'things going wrong' within the organization.

Again, no disagreement there. He's but the face of major dysfunction not the cause of major dysfunction. Unlike Grbac. IMO.

Hey, I saw it, too - Grbac was a team cancer. Shit part was, he's 6'4", 215 lbs and could hit a 35-yd out on the move...and couldn't keep his head or his team together.

Matt Cassel didn't start in college...and was a failure in the NFL...sinply because he's not a very good QB.

Matt is probably a way better teammate than Grbac...but statistically, Grbac is obviously the way better QB. He had more physical talent, put up more numbers and probably had a way better win percentage.

If Cassel is a shit sandwich, then Grbac is a shit sandwich with cheese.
