And goddamn. This guy is supposed to be a prodigy right? He's supposed to have a "superb" football IQ? He took advanced classes in school so he gets things better than everybody?

Well, he says here that he studied Syracuse's defensive coverage all summer long. So not only has he been studying for this game forever, he's played that defense twice and has plenty of experience and yet he still can't figure out WTF he's doing when he's playing them.

The Good:
- He's gotten consistently better every year he's been playing. More accurate, less mistakes and more consistent.
- He can make all the throws regardless of the weather.
- His offensive line was pretty bad today. Many of the times he didn't even get back in his drop before there was pressure right down on him.
- With no running game to speak of, he couldn't just hand it off to a big bruiser to get him the short yardage, he had to hope that Austin would get free or that he could make it work. WVU relies on passing 100%, always have under Holgerson and always will. They should've realized before halftime that the OLine was struggling they should've put in a TE to help block or a RB/FB to block more often. That'll get alot better in the NFL because he'll be able to fall back on our running game and packages that he just doesn't have in WVU.
- His scheme that his coaches gave him was a bigger problem than the weather.

The Bad:
- Pressure, he didn't handle it well. He blew up at the ref after the safety, his pocket presence was poor, and he didn't get rid of the ball when he needed to. He had the unfortunate truth that he knew people would be watching. It was the last game before the draft, last chance to prove his game readiness and leadership. He put the pressure on himself, as did the hype, and he didn't play a great game. So Kiper and McShay will say I told you so and he'll have to make big waves in the combine and senior bowl to get the attention back.

The bad thing is we have to take a chance on someone. Geno, Wilson, Bray, Barkley, whoever we take is a risk. The only thing we can do is hope that whichever risk we take will pan out. The bad news is we're the Chiefs, and QB's don't normally pan out. But before we get to April, lets just wait and hope that Monday brings us a clean slate.

Smith consistently delivered accurate throws to his intended receivers, despite having rushers in close proximity. He refused to wilt under the pressure of constant harassment, and his courage under fire helped West Virginia make several critical conversions with the game on the line. Smith tossed three lasers to Stedman Bailey on slants for scores, despite having defenders in his face each time he released the ball; on each toss, he stood in and took the shot while making an accurate throw. Most quarterbacks alter their release point or delivery with contact on the horizon, but Smith's ability to fire an accurate strike under duress was a testament to his courage and poise. - Bucky Brooks

Smith has also torched a bunch of really good defenses over his career. He threw for 463 yards and 2 TDs against the nation’s best defense (LSU) in 2011, for 407 yards and 6 TDs against Clemson in the Orange Bowl, and 320 yards and 4 TDs against Oklahoma back in November.

From the time the Mountaineers entered the field for pregame warmups until the conclusion of the game, Smith showed outstanding leadership qualities. His delivery is quick most of the time because he is throwing quick outs and he has a quick release. When he has to find plays on his own, he stands in the pocket forever.

Yeah he has done this. But not very often. He locks on his 1st read ALL THE TIME. Watch the OU game. Perfect proof of that.

He may be a hard worker, but he must not be understanding it, especially yesterday. He studies hard all summer and has played a team twice, but then he still struggles against that same defense? Not buying his football IQ.

Austin picked up 909 of his 1266 receiving yards after the catch (71.8% of his total receiving yards)

Bailey picked up 553 of his 1501 receiving yards after the catch (36.8% of his total receiving yards)

These two players account for 69.1% of Geno Smith's passing yards.

Really? Is that why good defenses are getting the best of him? He should have had 4 INT's in the OU game, but the DB dropped easy INT's that hit their hands. Easy INT's in the NFL.

Alright, I'll let you have this one. The same Texas defense that Landry Jones owned is the one Geno owned.

Most of Geno's stats against LSU were in the 2nd half against their prevent defense. OU should have had 4 INT's like I said.

Don't buy his leadership like everyone else. Not saying he's a horrible leader, but I think there are better leaders in this class than Geno.

Oh and Walter and Brooks info? Seriously?

I guess by this logic we shouldn't touch Geno with the number 1 pick because he's the 17th ranked player on Bucky's board as of 2 weeks ago.

Think maybe the Vikes would trade suckass Ponder for another pick that year after their pick like idk, like any of the 5 players drafted directly after their QB?

I'm not saying Geno is the 17th best prospect, but if he is the 17th ranked prospect on our new GM's board then we better not be picking his ass out of need 1st overall in April.
Any QB would have to have some serious flaws to be ranked that low on the big board for the 1st overall pick.

Look, I know you like your boy Wilson, but you gotta stop this stuff. You don't look very good when you keep trying to make these points and contridict just about everyone out there. There is so much game tape on Geno for everyone to see that most people who know what they are looking at get it, they understand that he's a very, very good QB prospect.

I like Wilson. I think he's a gamer and a tough kid.

But to be objective about it, Geno is a better prospect.

And I'm going to tell you straight up, there isn't a better player in this class as a football player than Geno, especially when you factor in the importance of the position.

There is no Calvin Johnson. No Pat Willis. No Alex Mack. No Von Miller. I'm sorry, but there is not. Next year, South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney will be that guy - and only him. He's an absolute prodigy as a 43 defensive end. But there isn't "that guy" in this draft.

IMO, Geno Smith is the best football player in this draft.
