Alex Smith vs. Rich Gannon

My view is that Andy Reid has no use for "game manager" QBs. What skills did Rich Gannon have that Alex Smith does not? Rich Gannon passed for about 4500 yards one year a Reid-like offense. Why can't Alex Smith do the same? Not saying he will, but help me understand why it's not going to happen.

Tim Brown and Jerry Rice. Unless you go get you TWO HOF WR's it's not very likely.

Edit: It was 4600 yards as well.

Gannon piled up all those stats in a dink and dunk offense and was helped out a lot by YAC.

Certainly he was a gamer and I admire what he did in the league with minimal giftedness, but I don't put a lot of stock in his stats. He was a system QB.

Again, not saying Alex Smith will put up huge numbers, but the Gruden-Gannon combination seems to me a good comparison to Reid-Smith.

You need WR's to put up yards. You also need to throw to them consistently.

It's just not a good look with the personnel the Chiefs have.

Jamaal Charles should be the focal point of this offense. He's by far your best player and he needs to get the ball consistently for the team to be successful.

If not, I really think you guys could struggle. At least early.

No. He was good.

But you essentially have two 1,000 yard WR's. Jerry had 1200 and Tim Brown was just shy at 930.

Rich Gannon was a good player, and 2002 was a great year.

But that team was very talented. I mean, they did go to the Super bowl after all.

He was a product of that system. He cracked 4000 yards once, after being in that system for 4 years. He had two HOFish WRs. I was never a fan.

When Rice signed with Oakland wasn't the consensus that he was done?

I ****ing hate Rich Gannon.

Every time we get some limp dicked, over-aged, noodle-armed game manager in here, the fan base aspires to his achievement of getting his ass waxed in the Super Bowl.

**** that shit.

Fair enough. I'm just thinking Reid is thinking he can do the same thing with Smith as Gruden did with Gannon, that's all.

The problem with a thread like this, is that people will destroy it.

If the chiefs got anything close to the results out of alex smith that the raiders got with Rich, then it will be a good year.
