At this point I doubt we'd draft him if he fell to the 2nd...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I don't think it's going to be a surprise.

I think that they draft Geno.

Neither tackle (Fisher or Joeckel) is an elite level prospect in the mold of an Okung or Thomas. They can get basically the same guy in the third through fifth round.

Alex Smith wasn't extended past the two years left on his current deal and hasn't finished but two full seasons and is coming off a concussion that sidelined him in 2012.

I think that they look at the ceiling Geno has to offer versus the other players and they pull the trigger. Both Reid and Dorsey have picked players very similar to Geno Smith in McNabb and Rogers and it's paid off for them in spades.

They aren't pressured to take any one single position and they are operating from a true "BPA" situation. I think Geno is the "BPA" in this draft when you consider his experience, production and upside, as well as the position he plays.

NFLN just said "Miami is still trying to trade for Albert with the 42nd pick...the sticking point appears to be Kansas City seeking additional compensation for the left tackle"

True dat.

If I was GM of the Chiefs, I would have drafted Alex Mack in 2009, Okung in 2010 and Dereck Sherrod in 2011. (Kaepernick would have been my second round choice that year.) I would have taken Zane Beadles in the second instead of McCluster and they took my second round choice in 2011 in Rod Hudson.

LT: Okung
LG: Beadles
C: Mack
RG: Hudson
RT: Sherrod

QB: Geno Smith

That's my team. Or what would have been had I made the picks.

Geno.

Not Joeckel or Fisher.

GENO.
