So I fixed my own AC unit

Every year I have to recharge my AC unit 2 times to get through the summer. Normally $125. This year they told me Freon has gone way up due to the gov trying to do away with it and it will cost $700 to recharge. They tell me I really need to think about replacing my system , which they have said every year. It is original to the house built in 1977 so its 33 years old. So they tell me it's gonna cost $5000-$7000 off the hip but they will send a guy over to give me a definite price. I tell the wife , screw that !

Three days later Sam shows up , he measures the house and tours the attic, comes back down and whips out his computer. He first shows me that I have 3 inches of blown insulation in my attic where as I should have 13 inches. He talks to me for 2 hours to get all the details, how many people, number of showers taken , how much cooking is done in the kitchen and so on. Then he starts printing off estimates of new systems. The first one is $17,000 and they work their way down to $5000. He shows me how the most effecient system will save me $1100 / year in energy savings. Then to reinsulate the attic another $6000 which alone will save me another $800 a year. They seal everything tight in the process.

So after much debate I went ahead and got the Cadillac system and put it all on a new credit card at o% for 21 months.

Gee I sure feel ****in cozy now.

So, now we all have to fix our AC's and get them in tip-top shape to support our mediocre QB, eh? Geno would have stood around in the hot house and led us to victory, but since we ol' Alice here needs to have a brand new system.

Another nail in the coffin of Reid/Dorsey, I say!

(Couldn't have one thread not devolve into an Alex Smith debate... after all)

Who is Sam and purchasing a new system is not fixing it yourself.

I've used 0% cc for years. as long as you are disciplined and pay them off it's FREE money.
EXACTLY. I have said it numerous times on here, I use credit cards all the time. I have paid completely out of pocket for my under grad, and I did it all through 0% credit cards, never a late payment and never paid a cent on interest. On my PNC card, I use it so much that I have received $500 in cash back rewards, once you get to a $100 they cut you a check. They pay ME to use their card as a free loan. I have made and saved so much money on credit card companies.

Yeah you're a sucker if you miss a payment. 7 years of using 0% interest cards, well over 50k charged on them and never one late payment nor interest payment. Not everyone using CC's are idiots.

In Oklahoma maybe all states, there's only so much r22 that can be put in until its a code violation. At $50/lb now and 33 years old, you did the smart thing.

I'm glad my wifes family does HVAC, whenever I need mine replaced, it'll be at cost.

Losing a few LBS will make it easier to take the 72 degrees.

LOL. She probably will tell you that theres something wrong with it because it keeps altering the temperature. While you just sit back and play with her mind.

Yeah, that was my plan. but they said $1200 to fix. So I went ahead and listened to the sales pitch and with the effeciency savings I figured it was the best thing to do in the long run.
