So who here has ever hooked up with someone via the Internet?

Just wondering who here has meet someone on-line or has friends/family that have. I'm not talking about the one night stand shit, but serious relationship stuff.

Anyway just was kind of curious about it, so lets hear the horror stories.

if you don't hook up with chicks from the internet, you're not using all of your resources.

Met my wife on the Internet. We have lived together for 8 years and been married for 6. It wasn't a match site or anything just a chat room I used to go to.

After a bad breakup from a 3 year relationship with my college sweetheart, I dated probably around 10 girls over a period of about 5 years, each for varying lengths of time. One of them I really liked and had hoped for a future with, but she turned out to have some psychological issues (not hyperbole) that gave her (in her mind) reason not to get too serious. After that I played it casual. None of the girls who followed were really seriously my type relationship wise but were within my "Would You" range so I did. One of them in particular became quite a nice booty call for several years until I met the woman who would be my wife. The girl I had been serious about at first actually turned out to be a pretty good booty call herself toward the end of my bachelorhood.

I would say It was a good way for someone who's not a bar fly to meet a lot of girls, but after a few relationships I realized that it's not a great way (at least for me) to find someone to spend my life with (if that's what you're after).

After my experience, I don't find it at all strange or coincident that I met my wife through a mutual friend who knew both of us personally, and not online.

And thus the OP requires better definition. The title "hooked up" can imply meeting someone this way, or meeting someone on a website specifically designed for dating, or meeting someone in a very obviously-superficial way (like on a porn site, LOL).

Here's the thing about the Intrawebz: chat rooms, or posting boards, are great ways to meet people because you can interact with them without physicality getting in the way. You will talk to and share things with people whom you have no idea what they look like, and you might get to know and like people without knowing if they're foxes or uglies or whatever. And there are more boundaries than just looks (such as ethnicity, income, or just general shyness and inability to interact with strangers).

As much as we all like to harp on the sexuality, when it comes to a LTR you do need to actually have things in common, like the person's personality, have the ability to talk to them, and all that other Oxygen Network crap. Just think about this board, even if you just want to talk about male-to-male (no homo): how many of you guys have met in person after getting to know each other, and thought, "Cool dude," and have never reflected on whether or not this is the type of person you would've interacted with in real life unless it was chasing each other with baseball bats at a traffic altercation?

Long story short, if you spend the time to get to know someone online, you can have an actual "real life" stable relationship with them. If you don't spend the time, or are looking for shallow or one-and-done, you'll get just that. It is what you make of it. If you treat it like a singles bar, you'll get that result; if you treat it like a simple way to interact with people (replacing real-world sites like work, gym, whatever) then you'll get more stable long-term results.

Anyway just was kind of curious about it, so lets hear the horror stories.

I married the last woman I met online 5 years ago. We met after my accident while I was re-cuping in the hospital surfing the web on a lap top.
we chatted from Sept-May, spoke on the ph from then to Nov when we finally met face to face after a year of growing a relationship through words and conversations.
I can honestly say,not only is she my wife, she's also my best friend.

As a long haul trucker, oh yeah, few good ones, and a few ahhh. NASTY!!
2 that come to mind

The one in Hartford CT:
She was a "singer", always had "gig's" on the weekend. Played herself off to be either Darby Mills of the Head Pins, or Litta Ford in leather.
Oh she was a singer alright, a ****en OPRA sing in NYC.
As a trucker I was a bit heaver than I am now, from lack of physical working conditions. I was 6'1, 265....She had a good 6 inches and 200lbs on me.
The supper was great, even though I told her I would stab her with my fork if she stuck her foot in my cerotch while I was eating again.
Explaning that I had just run NON-STOP from L.A over thre last 2 days, hiow about I go take a quick shower while she got "ready"
Thank god she didn't suggest joining me.
I literally dove into a dumpster out her bathroom window with the shower running ( first floor), no hollywood BS, it ****en hurt....

SoCali was 25yrs old, 5'5, 125lbs, Blond, blue eyes.
When I pulled up to her trailer 5000 miles later she was 52, 152, about the right hight, blond from a bottle, and the bluest eyes I had ever seen on a cougar

**A funny side note...This cougar sent me an e-post card. I looked at it, thinking it was her, which is why I took that run to Cali. ( she forgot to photoshop out the web address.)
It wasn't till a bit later I saw the half hidden web address, checked out the site, found a chat room, and met the woman I would marry 4 years later.

** second side note, the dumpster story is another one I met on that site prior to me getting to know the Mrs.

I can remember 10 years ago when the wife and I were first getting to know each other, still kinda very rare (in my area) people get together on line....funny how it`s now becomming such a normal thing to do..
