Your Chief Fandom...

Looking at Rainman's "Greatest Chief" polls, I start to realize that certain players don't get voted for by a majority (even though they may deserve it, and Rainmain has to pimp them), mostly because they played back in the "day." Now, either some of us are too young to remember and haven't bothered researching our team's roots, or jumped on board sometime after.

I'm also interested to see what people who have never lived in the general vicinity of KC have to say about their path to the light.

I will say that I am prejudiced against any band wagon fans, even if they have stuck with it since, say '90. I'm very big into hometown loyalty.

When I was a wee child I watched and went to Chiefs games with my dad. There was no other option. We didn't go to other games, we didn't watch other teams, we didn't listen to other teams on the radio, and we didn't talk about other teams (Same with the Royals and KU). This was during the '80's mind you, so it's not like there was a lot going on in Arrowhead. My dad raised me right. Since '89, I have been away from the KC area, but have maintained my Chiefdom, and I will never relinquish it.

So I'm curious, how did you come to find yourself bleeding red and gold?

(I'm sure this has been done several times, but my feeble search attempts were unsuccesful.)

Our whole family has been Chiefs fans for as long as I can remember. I became more interested in girls during my teen years. But, I got married and all that changed, and I've been a Chiefs fan ever since.

Oh ok. Sometimes it's difficult for me to discern sentiment on this board. Didn't mean to sound as if I took offense, just wasn't quite sure what you meant since I didn't know who keg is. I guess I should post more often and get to know all the players.

When the Dallas Texans moved to KC and became the Chiefs was the very first year I became interested in football. The local team was the Chiefs, they played at Municiple Stadium. It's all history from there. Never been a fan of any other NFL/AFL team.

I was raised in St.Louis back when the Cardinals was the football team. I was playing Pop Warner football in those days, so I took an interest in "TV football".

In the day when the Cards played in St.Loo there was no cable at the time. If there was, we didn't have it. So I watched them. I even had the chance to meet Pat Tilley.

So when the Cards moved to Az, the team that was playing on TV were the Chiefs. So that's who I watched. Several years later the Rams came to town, but I had been a Chiefs fan for so long that I had no interest in any other team.

I remember alot of people jumping to the Rams bandwagon when they started to win. Many will tell you that they became Rams fans because they moved to St.Louis. For some it's true. But many did not make the switch until the Rams began to win.

Today it's much easier to like any team you choose because of cable TV and the NFL Sunday ticket stuff. But back then, either you inherited your favorite team from a family member or your freinds. Or you just loved the only team you were able to see every week.

I even tried to like the Dolphins like a buddy of mine did. Back when Griese played. But I never saw them play.

So I guess I could be considered a Chiefs fan by default. Today I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world. But if they had NFL Sunday ticket back in the day, I would likey be a 'phins fan. Yuck!

No, I lived mostly in Williamsport, but now live in a town to the north. I teach in Montoursville (home of Mike Mussina and Kelly Mazzante, also made famous by TWA Flight 800)

I read somewhere that a lot of people became Chiefs fans when Joe Montana joined the team in 1993.

I've loved football since I was a little kid. The parents watched the Chiefs every Sunday during the season. It was just a natural occurrence that I became a Chiefs fan.

Moved to Columbia in 1990 so I have an excuse for jumping on the bandwagon at that time. Have followed a great team ever since even though I left the area in 1995.
