This might mean it is the SEC, not the Big 12, that actually moves to expand first. It also probably signals an acceleration to 16 for the major conferences and the end of the ACC as we know it.
I can't see the SEC moving first on poaching the ACC if those are the teams they are trying to get because both have big political hurdles.

UNC shares a Board of Regents with NC State, so UNC is unlikely to get approval to leave the ACC (and effectively kill the conference) without finding a proper landing spot for NC State first. Even then, it may be tough to split the two schools up.

In Virginia, UVa pulled a ton of political strings to get Va Tech into the ACC less than a decade ago. It would be hard to see Va Tech being able to bounce to the SEC that quickly unless UVA either didn't want to go or knew they had a Big Ten invite in their back pocket.

If the ACC does get poached, it is going to be ugly because some schools are going to lose their spot in the game of musical chairs. Wake Forest fans are probably shitting bricks right about now; they are about to become the next Tulane.

I bet this is what would would happen. In fact, it wouldn't shock me if the Big 12 and SEC knows each other's expansion plans. The Champions Bowl was a shot across the bow at the Big Ten-Pac alliance.

I think the ACC really pissed off Mike Slive by backing out of the top 1-4 seeded playoff and instead going with Jim Delaney's all conference champs model.

I agree, there's a lot of political battles, a lot of pressure from all sides, and a whole lot of money.

Although, I think UVA might consider itself to be more B!G material, and the B!G will probably move this direction as well if semis come to fruition. In that care, I could see either NC St or UofL in place of UVA.

Also, the Big 12 is reportedly very skittish about Miami. The feeling is that they are a bit radioactive despite their prime location and high viewer ratings.

Sure they are not one of these 100,000 seat type teams. There really aren't very many of those. Doesn't mean they aren't passionate about football.

All my point is that I see UNC as a much, much higher profile school than Clemson. If UNC were added to the Big 12 I'd be "ecstatic". If Clemson joins I'll be "sure, why not".

Yes, but all the rumors come from people that have been both hit or miss. That's why they are rumors. Nobody is asking anyone to take these rumors as gospel, but that doesn't mean there aren't elements of truth to them, or at the very least, primary motivations. What the actual end product will be will only be known when official announcements are made.

I'm not denigrating rumors in general or message board chatter. I'm specifically skeptical of that particular guy. I truly believe he got lucky last year, is seen as some kind of prophet, and is now trying to make educated guesses that he thinks are likely to come true.

He's had too many hilarious misses for me to take him seriously, misses that from the outside looking in might have seemed reasonable, but that even casual big 12 fans would know better than to predict. For example, he recently predicted (based on his imaginary sources) that the Big 12 would agree to let the LHN show high school games. A lot of people have forgotten that by now, but at the time he was roundly mocked by Big 12 fans and called out for making stuff up.
