Did Alex Smith remind you of Matt Cassel tonight?

7-16

62 yards (45 net)

3 sacks

3 passing first downs (1 on a screen pass)

0 completions over 8 yards.

4 punts

NO TOUCHDOWNS

NO BIG PLAYS

NO INTERMEDIATE PLAYS

I'm pretty sure they have the same father, just different mothers.

Who said he needed to throw for 5K yards? I sure didn't. You just need to be able to attack and win games. No matter how good your team is you can't get through the playoffs and the SB without winning games for your team as a QB. I don't think Alex can do that. His style, when done correctly, will be loved by QB ratings. QB ratings aren't everything.

I'm just looking at the last 10 years in the NFL and the SB results. Avoiding mistakes is going against the grain in trying to win a SB. I don't believe Alex is anything more than a guy avoiding mistakes. Time will tell.

The Smiff Patented Right Sideline Dash was resurrected, hilarious, 9th year in the league, he can't remember to throw it away the whole two yards it had to go, took the loss instead. There was more of that famous right sideline dash last night.
You are a glutton for punishment.
Who gives a shit about the first game? In fact, who really gives a shit about preseason in general. Its more important for Alex Smith to break the mold of being passive, and to become more aggressive. Btw. Beautiful pass by Kaep last night. That touch is coming along beautifully.

I know. That was my point since someone started blabbing about horrible protection and the Packers game not rolling without the run.

Pretty sure Rodgers was throwing for nearly 8 yards on average with 39 TDs and only 8 INTs.

Alex Smith simply sucks at his job.

Fair enough. I think we all would like to see him take more aggressive shots. I think he can do so successfully, but I can understand how others have some doubts about this.

How did Roethlisberger play in his Super Bowl runs? Efficient, not spectacular.

Peyton Manning stumbled to a Super Bowl that postseason.

Eli Manning was Alex Smith-esk in his 1st time to the Super Bowl.

Tom Brady was helped a lot by D/ST in winning 2 Super Bowls.

The NFL is a team game. If the QB does a serviceable job they have a fair chance to win.

Can you make a regular guy a household name?

Now obviously we still have Davis. But if we have another guy to throw to outside? Man, we're tough to beat.

Manningham comes back week 8 or 9 depending on the circumstances, so it's not like the cupboard is bare. But I'd like to see Kaep get someone else involved.
Yeah. That's the problem, and the schedule is absolutely BRUTAL. I mean realistically, the 49ers could start 0-2. The schedule is horrendous. Now, all of that could be tempered because Randall Cobb is hurt, ,and Jordy Nelson just had knee surgery, and the packers oline again is still messed up, but their defense should be better this time around, and as you and I both know, Aaron Rodgers is always scary....

Follow that up with a trip to seattle. Eek. People think when I say that the 49ers might only win 9 games, its because ive flipped, and am a hater and what not, but its the truth. A couple of trends hold very true lately.

One, the super bowl losing team, usually doesn't do as well the next season, and the schedule this year, whoooooo.......Brutal.......
