If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

It wasn't that bad. It all built up to a head with the SOC movement. There was a lot of effort put towards that movement and it seemed like things were turning the corner when Pioli and Romeo were fired ending that whole debacle. Then in a flash the new regime does exactly what the old regime and all the other failed regimes have done over the last 30-40 years.

That's the thing. The team has made the same mistakes year after year when it comes to the most important position. So of course people are going to keep complaining about the same thing.

How much did Mike Vrabel, Zach Thomas, Bobby Engram, Amani Toomer, or any other bald-tired, brokedick help that?

Organizational futility affects the fans far more than the players. Shit, the players probably couldn't name half the guys in the Chiefs ROF if they weren't in the stadium.
I think the biggest way to turn the culture of a team is to have a good coach in place who knows how to lead and teach.

Reid is a winner. He's only had 3 losing season's in 14 years. I think he's gonna bring a mentality here and expect something from them.

Yep, better than the Broncos.

Manning's arm is toast. He's still exceptional in terms of his understanding of the game, but he can't stretch the field. There is going to be a lot of Wes Welker, but he's a drop machine and that game plan plays into our defensive strengths.

Their defense isn't very good outside of Von Miller and losing Dumerville will be significant.

I'm pretty confident that the Chiefs win the AFC West this season.

There absolutely should be no learning curve for Alex Smith. We can move on from that.

Because I want to see if Dwayne Bowe can still make those acrobat freak circus esq catches that he is so good at.

I want to see Jamaal Charles break a rushing record in a game.

I want to see Tamba Hali and Justin Houston make quarterback sandwiches.

I want to see DJ, Brandon Flowers and Eric Berry take pick 6s to the house.

I want to see Dustin Colquitt punt the ball so that the punt returner muffs the ball and we get the ball back.

I want to see if Powe can blow up an offensive line when he gets in the game and penetrate forcing teams to crumble.

I agree. But it does become cumulative and these guys really look to have been affected by Peeholi's reign of terror. They gave up last year. Perhaps not as individuals, but they gave up as a team. And if it's not corrected, it will only get worse.

Leadership starts at the top and our top the past four years was a farcical malignancy.

In addition, our QB situation since /Trent Green has been laughable. Smith is as good as Green. Very similar players actually. He'll also have a better defense to support him than Green did and nearly the equal on offense.

I was all in for Geno and I'd have even been quite happy with Barkley, but Alex Smith is as good as they were going to get in terms of a proven player that was going to be a building block for this franchise in terms of going forward in a successful manner.

I agree with Sac (wow) that we can beat the Broncos.

Their biggest defensive playmaker is great rushing off the edge and now we have 2 OT's who are capable of containing him.

The Broncos have holes too. I don't buy their secondary at all. In fact, if you take away Von Miller, their defense is average.

I'm so happy horseface drafted Sly Williams over Jonathan Cyprien.

And I still think they can't stop Jamaal.

i remember when Harbaugh was hired by the 49ers...he traded multiple draft picks for a backup, and didn't draft a QB his first year, also passed on a pass rusher for a RT...all to stem the culture of losing

we're following the right model
