Easy [hopefully] Q on big HDs

I have a 200Gb HD I'm putting into a Win2k machine. Now Win2k doesn't support larger than 137Gb until SP3. So can I setup the HD with a full 200Gb partition, install, and go straight to the SP, or do I have to set it up with the 137Gb partition, and get an aftermarket partition manager to reset the partition after I've installed the SP?

Try to install it and see what happens and what size partition it will try to create.

You could use Windows Disk Manager after you have installed SP3 and see if it finds the other partition but if you want to make the whole drive 1 partition then yes you probably would have to get a partition manager.

Other than that I don't know. I sometimes try the trial and error method.

I would set up the HD with 2 different partitions. You won't be able to reset it "on the fly" unlessy ou have an aftermarket partition manager.

I forgot about slipstreaming. I made me a slipstreamed ISO of Win2k SP4. So I'll try setting up the single partition with the WD Data Lifeguard, and install right into SP4.

Or you could set up a partition using the Win2k disc. Less work...

Win2k seems to take like 1/2 and hour to format. WD tools takes less than 30 seconds.

Gotcha. Yeah, the first time you format a drive it takes forever. When I do a "quick format" in Win2k/XP it takes no time at all.
