Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Shot the AR for the first time today. It took a little longer than it should have to sight it in with the red dot sight. It's still not set right. I don't think it's a very good red dot sight. My wife had probably 1/4" groupings on the iron sight from 25 yards.

I might be able to get my hands on a leopold sight for it discounted from a friend of a friend.

I hunted with an outfitter in Wyoming who had a matched pair like that,Black and Decker. Easy ridin, smooth and surefooted in the high country south of Jackson.

Victim in Montana grizzly attack was shot by friend.

Authorities say a hunter attacked by a grizzly in a Montana forest was killed not by the bear, but by a gunshot fired by a companion trying to save him.

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said Friday that 39-year-old Steve Stevenson of Winnemucca, Nev., died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. The cause of death was determined by the medical examiner with the Montana State Crime Lab.

The shot was fired by 20-year-old Ty Bell, also of Winnemucca, as he attempted to stop the bear's attack.

Bell had earlier shot and wounded what he thought was a black bear during a Sept. 16 hunting trip along the Montana-Idaho border.

The two men tracked the wounded grizzly into thick cover, where it apparently turned on Stevenson.

So ****nut shot the bear thinking it was a black bear not a grizzly. Only wounds it instead of killing it. Then they go looking for it and he shoots his buddy in the chest and kills him. AND he's not getting charged? WTF......

Yeah, that's what you call a REALLY BAD day. I'm sure he guy panicked when he saw his buddy getting tossed around like a rag doll by the grizzly.

That would be a hard shot to make with that much movement. Have you ever seen a dog shake a big towel? You would have to run up at nearly point blank and make the bear to drop the guy, stop shaking him, or be close enough to piss on the bear, for a sure shot. When you do that, you better not miss. You also better be yelling your head off, to distract the bear.

I spend a lot of time in bear country and I have gone over that same situation in my head a hundred times. "What if, how do you react?" If you have to think about it when it's happening, good luck, because someone is going to die. You better have a plan in advance and be able to react in a split second. Obviously, lead slinging guy, didn't have that luxury.

A good time to repeat my favorite snippet from a Mark Steyn Column from a few years ago:

Quote:
Oddly enough, among my Christmas presents that year was a copy of Survive, a collection by Sports Afield magazine of helpful tips for the great outdoors. Most of the stuff was familiar - rub a raw potato on poison ivy, roast a wood bug before you eat it - but on page 70 I was surprised by this novel approach to mountain lions:

Do not approach one, especially if it is feeding or with its young. Most will avoid confrontation, so provide an escape. Do all you can to appear larger. Raise your anus, and open your jacket if you have one on.

I can't say I did that the last time I saw a mountain lion, but maybe I had a lucky escape. And then I realised it's meant to be "raise your arms" and that the item is a cautionary tale in the pitfalls of computer "scanning". One hopes the misprint doesn't lead the less seasoned hiker into an awkward situation, and that any mountain lion confronted by city folks dutifully adopting the prescribed position will think "What the hell do they mean by that?" and wander off shaking his head rather than flying into a carnivorous rage.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Simmons-Aete...item588ff08093

Diamond ground glass.Nothing on the market will beat this scope. Not in the under $500.00 price range anyways.
These scopes were made in the Philippines before Simimons moved to Japan.
& started making junk. This scope is at its best in low light, foggy ect conditions. I have 4 dedicated Coyote rifles. All are top off with Philippine made Aetec

Expect that scope in the link to go for around $100.00 to $120.00

If it's fully converted looks to be a good price(depending upon how and what parts they used to convert). MSRP for a preconverted Arsenal/Legion Saiga is $800+. As for the ammo no clue if that's good bad or ugly.
