Romney: 47% of Americans are victims

I guess this maybe the kill shot for his campaign. I know some of you believe you this and won't find a problem with what he said but as a person running for POTUS you probably shouldn't write off 1/2 the country especially in a disparaging way.

Quote:
A hidden camera video of Mitt Romney at a fundraiser shows him talking disparagingly of people who will vote for President Obama.

Said Romney: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax."

He adds: "My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

If anything this incident points out how theres a good portion of voting base for both parties who blindly just vote Dem or Repub no matter what the candidate does. Thats probably what Romney was trying to say deep down.

For instance, alot of my family is union. They obviously vote Dems 100% of the time, even though they might hate the candidate.

Everyone has their own built in bias's and personal agendas for one reason or another.

Yes.

It's my view, which is obviously different than many people in this country, that we should be progressing socially, not regressing. And I'm not talking about "Entitlements", I'm talking about racial diversity, a Woman's Right to Chose, evolution and so on.

So many Republicans have the exact opposite stance and to me, that's scary.

Well, California did shoot down gay marriage less than four years ago. Though I think it is expressly forbidden by the 14th amendment.

Economically speaking, it has the same effect as a welfare check. Politically, a tax credit is more palatable to the masses than a welfare check, thus probaby the reason they went that route. The main difference in this instance between the tax credit and welfare is that you have to be working to earn the credit so people don't get it if they sit at home.

Because he would make growing the economy a higher priority than pandering to unions or bankers or the working poor or the comfortably wealthy. Because he would address the entitlement time bomb that is threatening our fiscal future. Because you'd be able to replace a guy that even Bob Woodward paints as over his head but too arrogant to realize it with a guy who has been successful at everything he's ever tried to do.

And also because you understand that his social policy is so far down his list of priorities, compared to the economic and foreign policy situations he would inherit, that it isn't even really worth bringing up.

True.

The problem R's are going to have this election is turning enemies or neutrals into friends.

He's not very sharp, and elections are about manipulation, and the man can't manipulate worth a shit.

I wouldn't say it's not worth considering, but there is little the president can or would do on social issues. The Supreme Court is a place where Dane is correct, but even there I don't think you're going a national ban on gay marriage becoming law and surviving even the conservatives on the court.

The word "word" has 11 definitions in the Merriam Webster dictionary. That doesn't seem to present any problems for us when we use it in a communication as you did above.

I talk about entitlements like SS and medicare around seniors all the time and nothing happens because most of them understand that that's normal nomenclature.

Well, if you assume the government is entitled to that money that is not subject to taxation then you're correct.

My problem is that there seem to be very few objective selections. I know it's difficult to find people that are completely in the middle, but do they all have to be so extreme in one way or another? If re-elected Obama has an opportunity to swing the Supreme Court pretty far left for a long time.
