Okay, here is a place for the Golfers to talk about tournaments, clubs, swing help or thoughts.

Today is the Players Championship, which I think ought to be the 5th Major. Largest pot in the PGA. The daunting 17th, which seems to bring excitement every year. At least we will get to see Sergio blow up yet again.

I am ready to see some water balls!

1) 18* would replace a 2-iron. 21* would replace a 3-iron, etc.

2) Hamas would be the person to ask on this, or Smitty.

3) Depends on your swing speed. Anything over 90, and I'd probably go stiff shaft, regardless of steel/graphite.

Personally, I'm not a fan of hybrids. However, the best one I've ever hit was this:

http://www.tgw.com/customer/category...EGORY_ID=10203

I'd get somewhere and demo this club, at $100 it's a bargain.

Or, you could try to find some Bridgestone J33's. Probably could find 2 on Ebay for the price of 1 new.

20-21 degree = 3 iron ..... 22-23 degree = 4 iron

#2 - Which would be better - steel or graphite? I think steel would be better...but I'm also not that good.

Graphite easier to swing, lighter, less vibration .... Steel more durable usually get more control.

#3 - Regular or stiff? Regular would be what I would buy, would there be any benefit to stiff for me?

Depends on your swing speed If you have a faster swing speed get the stiff, if you don't (most golfers are in this group) get the regular. If you have a faster swing speed and you have a regular shaft it will flex easier, and before the point needed, and a lot less control. On the other hand if you have a normal speed swing and you use a stiff flex it won't flex when you need it and will lose distance.

It's not just swing speed, it's also swing tempo. Some guys load a shaft a lot quicker than others, especially if you have a quick transition from backswing to downswing.

John Daly actually has played R flex shafts at several points. Fred Couples once used Tom Watson's wife's driver as a 3-wood in tournament play (complete with a ladies shaft).

If you are looking at hybrids, I'd tell you to go to a place that carries used sticks and try them out outdoors on a range if at all possible.

The pro shop up at Smithville has a lot of demo days, and a pretty wide selection if you are up in the Northland. If you are farther south, there is a golf discount not too far from Minor Park that has an outdoor range that you can try clubs out on.

Really, the most important part of any club is the shaft, so if you find a head you like, try out a number of shaft and flex combinations until you come up with a winner.

For used hybrids, I have a Sonartec MD that I like, but it's not the easiest thing to hit in the world. It's useful for a variety of shots off the green, but there are times when its distance leaves something to be desired.

The Callaway Heavenwoods were pretty well regarded, I'd also tell you to take a look at the Ping G5s, the Cleveland Hibore, and the Nickents.

I still hit my long irons, but have put a 20* hybrid in my bag. You will love them, especially if you have problems hitting long irons.

#1 - They say a 20* should be about a 4 iron, but from experience and watching several others, you will hit a hybrid farther than the iron it is supposed to replace. So I sometimes pull my 3 iron and hit a hybrid which is what they would call a 4.

#2 - Can't really go wrong either way, I am using graphite, as most others are too.

#3 - All depends on your swing? Go with what you have in your wood/irons. If you are a Reg and swing a stiff you will lose distance.

FYI - Adams makes good hybrids, and can be bought cheap. I don't like offset, but for the average golfer it is a good thing. I picked up one off e bay for $11.50 for a brand new Idea, I gave it to a friend, and he loves it. I am hitting a Cobra right now.

I will say, Hybrids are probably one of the best things that have came out in golf to improve the game of a recreational golfer. People that struggle to hit 3 and 4 or even 5, if you want to go that far, will be amazed.

Just get on ebay, 3balls or other big stores, will have plenty of cheap choices for you.

j-rob, a new poster to the planet, is a VERY good golfer also. He is hitting a Cobra at the moment and loves it. The main reason we bought these Hybrids is we have a 225 yard par 3, all carry over water. Seems to be the perfect club for this hole, I go back and forth between it and my 4 iron depending on wind.

If he posts in here, which I am sure he will, he is very knowledgeable.

Played Friday. Shot an 88 which was OK due to not playing but 4 times since October. Started out ok with a 41, but could tell I was getting tired towards the end and had to go par, par to shoot 47 on the back 9. Need to get out more and get my legs built back up.

Dammit...

I have a tee time this afternoon, the forecast yesterday said all this rain would be through overnight.

It hasn't made it here yet. Looks like I may get washed out.
